Can anybody tell me if what Woolmer said is wrong during the post-match interview? This is not the full script but it’s as near as I can get. The bottom line is that the manner of the dismissals was a disgrace and there really is no hiding place from that fact so why people are surprised when these facts are pointed out I have no idea. If some ego’s got bruised that’s too bad. the compliments will come when these players produce the goods, until then don’t expect to be treated like stars on the basis you are in the team.
Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer has strongly criticised his batsmen after their poor performance against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup on Wednesday.
Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat against Sri Lanka. It was a decision that was made to look silly, after Woolmer’s charges posted 122 all out and eight batsmen made single-figure scores.
“We inflicted our dismissals,” Woolmer stated, “It was a perfect batting strip.”
The coach’s assessment was borne out by Sri Lanka, who notched up the required 123 for victory in only 32 overs.
**“Inzamam
kicked the ball on to the stumps and [Yousuf] Youhana tried to take a single at silly point, which I’ve never seen,” Woolmer continued.
"There are no excuses. I won’t say we were disorganized, but as a coach I have to find out what went wrong, because the preparation was good.
“The question is why. We need to find that out and must win the two remaining super league matches to stay in the tournament,” he said.**
Pakistan will play Bangladesh on Thursday 29 July and can be confident of a win in that match. However, before that, on Sunday, they will face India. Although their recent record against their arch rivals is poor, Woolmer has gone further than demanding a win.
“Sri Lanka got one bonus point from us. We now need to win with bonus points in the remaining two matches,” he said, and added that it would go some way “to redress the home series loss” against India earlier this year.
If Pakistan’s batsmen play to their potential, the coach is confident that bowlers will bring their side of the bargain.
**“I’m really impressed with the bowling,” he told AFP.
“All three pacers bowled very well. If I was a batsman, I wouldn’t have liked to be in the middle.”**
