Bob Woolmer is on the verge of resigning as Pakistan coach, according to a report in today’s Daily Telegraph. The article also says that Zaheer Abbas, the team manager, is also prepared to walk at the end of the series.
The paper claims that Woolmer told the respected journalist Mihir Bose that he was at the end of his tether and that his “relations with Zaheer and captain Inzamam-ul-Haq have descended into acrimony”.
While the team has presented a united front in the last four days, behind the scenes Bose reports that all is far from well. Inzamam is said to have lost faith in the coach and believes that he is briefing the Pakistan Cricket Board behind his back, while Woolmer is angry at Zaheer’s “lack of focused leadership” during the crisis.
Bose says that the Pakistan dressing-room on Sunday was “a confused and angry place where there was a lot of shouting and different advice being thrown at Inzamam”. He continues that language difficulties meant that Inzamam was not immediately fully aware of what his side was being accused of, and that the realisation of the seriousness of it all only became clear when he returned to the dressing-room.
Woolmer apparently gave two or three options to the players, but none included refusing to resume after the interval. “I am not sure how much of what Woolmer said was understood by Inzamam,” a source said. “Inzi decided the team would not go out.”
Thereafter, relations have deteriorated by the day.

Yaar things getting worse and worse, now I wudn’t be surprised if we did ball tamper.
Re: Woolmer to quit?
I doubt if Woolmer opened up to Mihir Bose to this extent. But lets see how things unfold.
Re: Woolmer to quit?
Its obvious that with Sheher Yaar Khan, Inzi,Woolmer and Zaheer each acting on his own, things are not running smoothly in Pakistani camp.
Re: Woolmer to quit?
I dont believe it for a moment. He might have said something about quiting if team wasnt handed a fair trial. I think its ICC's touts acting for them to bring Pakistan down and to put cracks in their show of unity
Re: Woolmer to quit?
Divide and rule!
Re: Woolmer to quit?
yeah this is b.s.
they're doing this to divert the attention from the fact that there is NO PHYSICAL EVIDENCE of ball tampering. they know that the gora is wrong this time around, but to avoid being shut down by the asian cricket boards, they're coming up with this b.s.
i highly doubt that woolmer and inzimam's relations deteriorated in the dressing room because when they were brought back onto the field, woolmer stopped inzi on the stairs and said something to him, which looked like advice because of the way inzimam shook his head in agreement and understanding.
i understand that us paki's are the biggest khalifas when it comes to managing anything at all, but we really have to question the validity of this stuff as its based purely on speculation.
Re: Woolmer to quit?
Woolmer has DENIED this rumor:

Re: Woolmer to quit?
Let us support Bob, he has given so much to Pakistan cricket. I recommed that we go to his website and show him our support thru our words.
I have always liked him
Re: Woolmer to quit?
Bobby Woolmer is a true professional, he will stand by his team and captain till the last moment, but these events have yet to be revealed in entirety to the general public.
With so many cooks (Sherry Khan, Dr Naseem, Zaheer Abbass, Inzi and 16 players) in the dressing room, its very possible that things turned ugly, confusion pre vailed that led to a state of anarchy. I wud not be surprised if Inzi was the one who had no idea about the rules and possible repercussions.
Re: Woolmer to quit?
Woolmer is truly professional and will stick at this crisis time. But saying that everything is fine and news of rift was rumour is wrong. Even in his interview Woolmer said that there was some cofusion but everythign is fine now.
This definitly shows that they way things were handled in Dressing room during tea time was very stupid and some emotional fool was in charge. Obviously Woolmer being a true professional didnot agree with it. This is what I have been telling all along.. boycott of the game is one of the most stupidiest thing Inzi has ever done and you know he has done many stupiod things in his career. :D
Re: Woolmer to quit?
I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up quitting by the end of the ODIs.
Re: Woolmer to quit?
And if this happens, It will be because of some emotional fools in dressing room.
Re: Woolmer to quit?
i think woolmer -rightly- may have had a 'rift' with someone in the dressnig room. to blow it out of proportion and say that him and inzimam got into a verbal confrontation would be a little hard to believe.
both of them are mild mannered and soft spoken individuals. it would be uncharacteristic if they were to 'fight'...
i dont think bob woolmer is going anywhere, anytime soon. i'm sure he doesn't mind coaching the team, and plus, our bureaucratic cricket board knows the importance of not letting him resign/quit during this time of crisis so they will do everything in their power and interests to keep him in Pakistan.
Re: Woolmer to quit?
It was an interesting event at the Oval but I do not think Woolmer is going to leave Pakistan pre-maturely. I mean what he has done for past 2 years with the team and all the ups and down the team has went through, they were together. In past two years, Inzamam led this team and Bob was the coach, they had seen thick and thin and both have done a great job. Inzamam has won us plenty of series with his bat. What happened in the dressing room is a mystery and I would be glad if it remains as such, unlike what happened in India. I mean that was embarrassing to say the least, where a player actually cried like a high school girl.
Moreover, I do not think Pakistani players have a mentality to form sides in the dressing room. There were panic and a justifiable one, our team told a baseless accusation. I think Inzamam and Woolmer have sought out things; although I think there will be change in recent months. The changes would be Inzamam will remain in the team but will start transferring his captaincy to Younis.

Nnnn NO Nnn NO, Wrong thread with wrong info! ![]()
First of all I refuse to recognize ‘Cricinfo’ as an authentic news gatherer full of our ‘Indian’ friends. Infact cricinfo is nothing short of garbbage
Secondly, I consider this a deliberate news conspiracy to match timings with the current affaires to make matters more worse.
