Wood Floor maintenance questions ..

I need some help folks ..

When we moved to this house about 3 years ago, the wood floor in the living room was really good quality so we didnt change it ..I think it must be around 4-5 years old now.

I have noticed that the space between some planks has increased slightly .. It might be due to the expansion and contraction that happens during winters and summers ..

Now, I am not in a position to change it entirely , yet, so I need to find a way to fix it .. coz during mopping and brushing, the dirt and water goes into the spaces and that makes it look untidy … Also because of the spaces I have felt that the damp from the ground is felt a lot more in the room ..

Anyone knows how to fix this? some kind of filler to fix the space .. would wax work?
Really parishan with this floor , so will appreciate any help and advise .. shukhriya

Re: Wood Floor maintenance questions ..

i think you may want to fill the lil cracks with resinous glue. the glue that they use to put those wood tiles in. i will ask my bro then let you know because he knows a lot more than i do.

Re: Wood Floor maintenance questions ..

Considering that its winter, this contraction should be normal. If you fill it with something, you will not leave the room for boards to expand back in summer.

Just my 2 cents.

Re: Wood Floor maintenance questions ..

i have seen wood floors and those wood tiles are treated to withstand weather variations and do NOT show any cracks between the tiles…since these tiles are indoors in heated homes, i do not see weathering as a problem…it could be dues to some underlying factors.

Re: Wood Floor maintenance questions ..

TLK .. I wanted to fill the cracks last year too , but then I was told that I must wait and see if it remains the same during summers .. and yes it remained the same case during summers too ..

But now the problem that I am facing is definitely increasing , coz I can feel the room quite moist and that can ruin my furniture .. the moisture is coming from the floor as a result the room is chilled as compared to the rest of the house … so I am thinking when we moved in we gave the floors some rugged wash to remove any traces of dirt and paint .. and there is a high possibility that what ever filling there was at that time , might have come out ..

Also the wood would have absorbed some elements like chemicals and water .. as a result the spaces has increased slightly .. we do have wood floor on the upper floor as well but that isnt causing any such issues ..

Re: Wood Floor maintenance questions ..

Yes definitely KKF, the problem is that we did sort of give it a heavy duty clean up when we moved in .. that must have definitely damaged the filling .. like I said in my post above ..

but I now need a way to fill those cracks in .. I will do it as soon as the summers start .. can you please find out a bit more about that glue you mentioned? I will keep an eye out on it when I got to B&Q next time ..
