Re: Wondering how the Prophet might have responded to the cartoons..

I take it that the irony of muslims firebombing an embassy in retaliation for our beloved Prophet (saw) being depicted as a bombing terrorist is lost on most of those here....

Re: Wondering how the Prophet might have responded to the cartoons..

It is lost only on those who support such actions.

Re: Wondering how the Prophet might have responded to the cartoons..

Indeed. Unfortunately the mob mentality cannot see this. Torching the Danish embassy (who incidently are not to blame) or burning flags is akin to the western world torching every muslim embassy after 9/11. Furthermore, despite the Danish paper's apology, the real protests (non-violent) should be directed at those national newspapers that RE-PRINTED the cartoons fully knowing its offensive nature and the growing outcry to it. It was a deliberate act of provocation with intent to offend.

Re: Wondering how the Prophet might have responded to the cartoons..

Zakk,

Does the Prophet (PBUH) speak to you? I kind of suspect that.

Have more threads and messages like this one posted by Zakk. And less like those posted by Guy1.

Re: Wondering how the Prophet might have responded to the cartoons..

i dont see why the two reactions cant be complementary. I would support non-violent reaction against european countries through diplomatic channels and boycott of products along with promoting Islam in a positive light (aka tableegh, for the inordinately..inexplicably vehement opponents of any introduction to Islam other than an RPG) and ensuring a more educated public opinion through the methods suggested by Zakk and others. both reactions are perfectly rational, and might actually need each other for balance

Re: Wondering how the Prophet might have responded to the cartoons..

re question in title of this thread (which not many seem to have addressed). I think he would have been smarter than everyone here and realized that outrageous violent protests only give 1000 times more publicity to the cartoons. A simple calm protest dialogue with the newspaper would have achieved a lot more. Instead now more muslims and non-muslims have seen the caricature than anyone could have ever imagined.

Isn't it ironic that the same people who do not want drawings of the prophet have caused it being seen by millions of people?

Re: Wondering how the Prophet might have responded to the cartoons..

Violent protests? There were violent protesters, but by far and wide the protests were peaceful.

Now, how about addressing the core issue of the cartoons rather than trying to deflect attention away from them by alleged Muslim misbehavior.

If you had written that message last September, when Muslims first began to protest....I'd give you an ear. It's a bit late for that question. Muslims did everything, and all we got was a cold shoulder and an earful from Westerners on their soap box.

Re: Wondering how the Prophet might have responded to the cartoons..

Reaction from Afghanistan:

"Islam says it's all right to demonstrate but not to resort to violence. This must stop," said senior cleric Mohammed Usman, a member of the Ulama Council, Afghanistan's top Islamic organization. "We condemn the cartoons but this does not justify violence. These rioters are defaming the name of Islam." Source:

Re: Wondering how the Prophet might have responded to the cartoons..

I've addressed the core issue several times before - my view has been that the newspaper should not have done that and that they have to have been very naive not to expect serious reaction.

All that aside, does it make sense to you to have these vilolent mob rage scenes? What do you think it does to the already damaged reputation?
