Re: Wonder how Intikhab Alam got a job as commentator
^ no doubt... although what he says might not be for family listening...
I do share a portion of my name with Umer Shareef.....
so maybe that effects me...
:D
Re: Wonder how Intikhab Alam got a job as commentator
hahah I'm glad you remembered! Yeah work has been rather busy as of late so I haven't really had a chance to post too much on cricketnama as you may have noticed.
On a slightly different note though, does anyone else miss Waqar Younis's commentary?
Axxxelent shaath from aaah jam of a delivery
(translates to: excellent shot from a gem of a delivery)
Re: Wonder how Intikhab Alam got a job as commentator
With the quality of coverage by ARY Digital one thought thngs can't get worse until Mr. Intkhab Alam was unleased ..... but then i guess some PPL on this side of the Border thought If Arun Lal (at least his English is much better) can do it why not Ithkhab Alam.
Some PPL in Production dept of Intl. Cricket for the Respective TV Channels r carrying out a field test/expermient: How much can a modern day Cricket fan bear while confronted with Below Par Quality of Coverage, non existent fielding (excpt the odd flash in the field) and now this commentary
Re: Wonder how Intikhab Alam got a job as commentator
Whether anyone likes it or not, Aamir Sohail was pretty insightful in the commentary box. It's just that he argued with the other commentators as if they had sworn at his mother or something.
Re: Wonder how Intikhab Alam got a job as commentator
He should have the ability to narrate what he sees.. and make the listeners feel as if they are a part of it. A little bit of humor certainly helps. And above all he must not be biased.. and his comments should be based on merit.
I fully agree with you but I have to add this:
I think that a commentator needs to be expert in both - the game as well as the language.
Re: Wonder how Intikhab Alam got a job as commentator
I think in this age of TV, we don't need a commentator narrating the game, rather we need someone with a vision, with a knowledge of the game, who could make some comparison among the present player with some greats. Plus command of the langauge make it more interesting.
Intekhab lack all of the above. On other hand, Ramiz is doing good job in the commentary box, but he is too CHAAPLOOS when it comes to presentation ceremonies. He likes to please some people and try to boss around with others. For example, in first test, when Yousaf tried to go talk to him, he told him to go away, he will talk to him later. This guy should have respect for a player, and should have asked one or two questions. Similarly, did you guys noticed how he was asking questions from Lara?
But when it comes to commentary box, he is doing a decent job, but can't do as a good of a job as even Bishop is doing. These guys have no carisma like commentators, who will go to pitch, take out their key and shows the cracked in the pitch, sit and show the green top of the pitch. These guys sit and tell us "it was a nice cover drive" yes we saw it was a nice cover drive. Tell us something about strategy, next move etc. When Ausssies/English/SA commentary, they will tell you that captain should make this bowling change or fielding change and you will see it happened very next second, seems like captain is listening to them.
Re: Wonder how Intikhab Alam got a job as commentator
Poor Inti,,,, He is quite an expert to comment on bowling techniques etc , but some time he's dragged into the areas of non relevence ,,LOL
We must not forget that he has been coaching in India, England, W.Indies, Bangladesh. Yes! his choice of words, phrases might decieve him many a times but no harm done so far. I Like to see Amir Sohail and Sikander Bakht for this job if any one care,,,,,
Re: Wonder how Intikhab Alam got a job as commentator
quite reasonable....not very exciting - but I was never bored - although I don't remember him in English ...only in urdu...
also a very nice guy personally ...no attitude...I once took my younger brother for a Pepsi cricket clinic he organized in the UBL sports complex in Big "k".
Re: Wonder how Intikhab Alam got a job as commentator
Other than Ramiz, Wasim Akram is the best choice.
There was an english commentator in Pakistan - I don't remember his name. he was quite serious I guess but he was good.(am not too sure as I didn't understand cricket at that time)
I think his name was Chisti something but can't remember.
