This topic has been raised so many times in this forum, it’s a very hot topic. Perfectly legitimate topic, you are not alone in wondering about this issue. :k:
do women have equal rights in islam?? i heard that women were not created equal and are not considered equal in islam..and then some people tell me women have more rights than men…
According to the principles of Islam, on the Day of Judgement, every man, every woman, will have to be accountable for her/his deeds. If Islam mandated that women were of inferior intelligence, or somehow lesser than males, than we would not be Judged by the same criteria on Yoam al Akhir.
Remember Surah al Zalzalah - Whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it / And whoever does an atom’s weight of evil will see it. It doesn’t say - men will be Judged more strictly than women, or women will get off lightly because their minds are inferior. Everywhere around the world, individuals are judged based upon equal criteria only if they are perceived to have equal intelligence beforehand. For example, you wouldn’t give the same test to a 15 year old that you would to a 25 year old - technically speaking, the 25 year old is ahead in terms of knowledge (maturity is another issue). Same logic - if men and women were different in terms of their knowledge, if the reasoning faculties, how we process situations/judgements are perceived to be unequal for males and females, then women would get off lightly, men would be judged more strictly than women.
O mankind! reverence your Guardian-Lord, who created you from a single person, created, of like nature, His mate, and from them twain scattered (like seeds) countless men and women;- reverence Allah, through whom ye demand your mutual (rights)… (Surah an Nisa)
For Muslim men and women,- for believing men and women, for devout men and women, for true men and women, for men and women who are patient and constant, for men and women who humble themselves, for men and women who give in Charity, for men and women who fast (and deny themselves), for men and women who guard their chastity, and for men and women who engage much in Allah’s praise,- for them has Allah prepared forgiveness and great reward. (Surah al Ahzab)
That’s not a great answer i know, but i hope it helps somewhat.
