Re: Women's right to lead mixed-gathering prayers
Im just wondering with all the protecting women from strange men , how they would be allowed to lead? Not using any Quran or Hadith evidence yet- but its strange.

Re: Women's right to lead mixed-gathering prayers
is the confusion about mixed namaz or about a woman acting as imam? if u can allow mixed namaz (which would mean theres atleast some women standing ahead of some men) then why not in the imam's position?
altho i guess then her voice would be on the loudspeaker waghera so its not exactly the same thing.
dunno.
Re: Women's right to lead mixed-gathering prayers
For me the most interesting part of the whole discussion is not necessarily the permission/prohibition of women leading the prayers. Knowing what I do about Islam and differences of opinion on almost every topic under the sun, its a safe bet (no pun) that you can find/interpret on both sides of the issue.
What I find remarkable is the assertion that over centuries muslim women have been lagging in intellectual and spiritual progress because they can't offer namaz in the front row. Mind boggling. Yet so simple. Vah!
Re: Women's right to lead mixed-gathering prayers
Faisal, there are always gonna be such points brought up by feminists about how women are opressed by muslims.
Though i agree that there is atleast some misconception about role of women in islam and a lot of that has to do with male dominance, but like you said, this particular point is kinda stupid :)
Re: Women's right to lead mixed-gathering prayers
Women who give up the essentials of being a female - are not feminists- theyr'e definately something else.
And yeah its a silly excuse to want to lead prayers. Since we've been put on this earth, we've been behind in the spiritual progress because women could not lead in prayers? Its so weird, its not even funny.
Re: Women's right to lead mixed-gathering prayers
If all Imams, fatwa issuers, leaders, and scripture-interpreters are male, doesn't it make sense that policy and progress will be male-dominated? That only men come from a position of authority and can be respected in spiritual and practical matters? It seems that with the differences between men and women there needs to be interpretations from both sexes to decipher and make good for the whole instead of coming strictly from the male point of view.
Re: Women's right to lead mixed-gathering prayers
Seminole---- we dont believe that because the Prophet was a man, and because men can be imams or leaders, that women are any less. We are equal to men in a different sense. Men cant have babies, women can. From what you are saying this is not right. Both should be able to have kids? No. We think differently.
In Islam, men and women are equal , in different rights though. Its not Islam that is male dominated, it is the world. How many female presidents did the States have? Being able to lead prayers does not mean a man has "more" rights than a woman. Men are supposed to be the protectors, not the masters.
Re: Women's right to lead mixed-gathering prayers
I understand that there are physical differences between men and women that necessitate certain societal and biological functions. I just don't think interpreting scripture and being a spirtual leader falls into that category. If men dominate religous leadership then they are the masters of the religion. Not much to do with "protecting" other than their place in society.
Re: Women's right to lead mixed-gathering prayers
So you're saying for hundreds of years women have been living without spiritual progress?
Re: Women's right to lead mixed-gathering prayers
No. I don't think one needs an Imam, priest, rabbi or anyone to achieve spiritual progress. I think the lack of progress is in the interepretation and practice of the religion when females are excluded (including Catholicism).
Re: Women's right to lead mixed-gathering prayers
How are they excluded? I for one do not feel left out, relieved would be the word instead!
Personally I think its not knowing what equality is between two different genders. And yeah we have to take the biological side into it even in this debate. Too often people think women are being left behind or being left out, what they do not realize is that women do not have to do EVERYTHING , exactly like a male does.
Re: Women's right to lead mixed-gathering prayers
I'm surprised you can't see the inference Faisal.
Take this example:
Give the minorities in America all the rights to live and pursue happiness but oh. they can't be leaders.. be a Chief of Police, or Mayor, or can't be elected to Congress or Senate or be President or be a Federal judge or be on the Supreme Court, or lead the FBI etc etc.
Aren't the minorities here given the 'back seat'? True, by assuming any of the above positions they won't automatically become more 'intelluctually progressive' but surely you can't argue that it wouldn't help them at least feel at par with the other citizens and therefore renew their interest in aiming for such leadership positions.
Re: Women's right to lead mixed-gathering prayers
the very fact some of you have to discuss and rationalize and even go looking for an affirmation by the prophet about women shows how primitive your thinking still is when it omes to womens;' status.
can a woman lead a friday prayer........???
i don't think so but please do let me know if thats a sin or not...
Re: can a woman lead a friday prayer........???
That is sooo wrong!
Re: can a woman lead a friday prayer........???
exactly...women are not allowed to lead the prayer... ppl in the back of her might have some kinda bad thinking about her.....if u know what i mean..
Re: can a woman lead a friday prayer…???
It is absolutely ridiculous and totally unacceptable. It has already been discussed in other thread and I am going to say again what I said earlier.
FemiNazism and liberal thoughts is slowly taking over American Muslims society. It’s a moment of shame of those girly men who just sat there and could not do anything to stop this insanity ![]()

Perhaps Amina Wadud is the Rosa Parks of Islam.
Re: can a woman lead a friday prayer........???
