O people of the world!
Fear your Lord.
He created you from a single
*soul and then created *
for you a mate like you,
from the pair scattered
men and women like you.
Fear Allah in whose name
to one another you appeal.
Ties of kinship you must respect.
Allah watches over you.
Give to the orphans their property.
Exchange not bad for good.
Do not take hold on their
property mixing it with you own.
It’s a great crime, indeed.
Lest you fear you won’t be fair,
marry their mother if she suits you,
marry two, three even four women.
But if you fear you won’t be fair
to all these women, marry only one.
Or what your right hand owns.
You won’t be then a partial one.

I have rendered section 103 and 104 from ten other translations into free verse. From those who think I did something unthinkable by doing these renderings, I beg their pardon.
