Re: Women Wearing Silk.... Haram?
no, not for women.
Re: Women Wearing Silk.... Haram?
Is the question about Women wearing silk being haram or using of silk material by women being haram? Just a thought.
I don't remember anything mentioned about silk forbidden for women.
Re: Women Wearing Silk.... Haram?
^^ Title: Women** Wearing** Silk.... Haram?
I've read scholars on many websites say it is permissible for women, but not men. In fact, I've never heard anywhere that it is haram for women.
But then.. what about this Hadeeth:
Prophet Mohammed: ‘There will be people from my Ummah who will seek to make lawful fornication, **wearing of silk, wine and the use of musical instruments.’
(Bukhaari vol.2 pg.837)
Re: Women Wearing Silk.... Haram?
wearing of silk is forbidden only for men, its allowed for women....
unless its against the general Islamic dress-code....
Re: Women Wearing Silk.... Haram?
^^ But it does not mention men nor women, in the hadith
Re: Women Wearing Silk.... Haram?
in other places it has been specifically forbidden for men....
Re: Women Wearing Silk.... Haram?
Then.. what about this Hadith?
Re: Women Wearing Silk.... Haram?
LKC, for God's sake dont use the word Haram. There are very few thing that are Haram according to Allah in holy Quran. Say, it is forbidden or not. People already responded on your question, correctly.
Re: Women Wearing Silk… Haram?
whats wrong in this hadith???
silk is haraam for men, and the Prophet (saw) says that a time will come when ppl shall make it halal…
it was never haram for women, was only haram for men…
what is it that u dont get??? ![]()
Re: Women Wearing Silk… Haram?
yeh silk isn’t haram for women
…and i don’t think it ever was
Re: Women Wearing Silk… Haram?
Nothing wrong with the hadith - just checking, because the hadith didn’t specifiy men or women.
Thanks anyways.
Re: Women Wearing Silk.... Haram?
The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) saying, “Gold and silk has been permitted for the women of my community (umma), and forbidden for its men.” [Ahmad, Nasa’i, and Tirmidhi, who deemed it rigorously authenticated (sahih); this has been related in more than 8 chains of transmission, which confirm each other] - sunnipath.com

^^ Thanks
Re: Women Wearing Silk.... Haram?
I have a question!
Why men are not allowed to wear silk??????
Why is it forbidden?
Re: Women Wearing Silk.... Haram?
Nabi (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said in one hadith whoever adorns himself with silk in this world, he shall be deprived of silken garments in the hereafter. (Mishkaat pg 174 Darul Arqam)
Huzaifah (Radhiallaahu Anhu) narrates that nabi (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) prohibited us from eating and drinking in utensils of pure gold and silver and wearing garments of silk.(Sahih Bukhari; Fathul Bari pg.291vol 10)
Re: Women Wearing Silk.... Haram?
I am NOT a scholar in hadees but I guess silk was a precious commodity at the time and it was worn by the arabs as a show off item. I guess it was encouraged not to wear to promote modesty, may be?
If that was the intent then a lot of other things today should also be forbidden...expensive watches on men (Rado is a favorite one of all the dulhaas in PK), Armani suits, and other stuff.
Can one wear silk boxers? They are not a show off but comfy. I don't know. How about silk ties?

brother i think it is best to refrain just in case... i think it is advisable to go with the wider viewpoint of all the well known credible scholars... i think all 4 schools - hanbali, hanafil, shaafi and maliki would take the view it is forbidden for men.
Is it?
A Muslim woman may wear silk or gold.
