Women Role Models

Salam all:

I am looking for a list of women role models and their contribution in today’s modern society but was not able to find much info. I am specifically looking for role models in the area of Arts example economics, politics and so on. Science and religion is excluded.
As much as being a role model goes hand in hand with popularity, influence and power, please do not list me names like Madonna and other from film/movie industry!

Thank you..

Re: Women Role Models

in Muslim societies, since women are not as much on the fore front in social, civic and public service life, they harldy get any recognition.
but, successfull businesses and professions like education, and medicine as well as engineering are great fields to look for role model women, who take on the professional lives together with managing their families.
one person who has influenced me a lot is Dr. Riffat Hasan ad one of my high school teachers among many others.
to have it all is a very hard thing to have, but those who have it and manage it well, are the strong women role models.

women role models in media-related fields from news to t.v. series, and talk shows, or films are not the best role-models unless their work potrays modesty and a sheer resolve to address social ills againt women, without becoming a show piece in the glitz of media life.

Re: Women Role Models

Shirin Ebadi (Persian: شیرین عبادی - Širin Ebâdi; born 21 June 1947) is an Iranian lawyer, human rights activist and founder of Children’s Rights Support Association in Iran. On December 10, 2003, Ebadi was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her significant and pioneering efforts for democracy and human rights, especially women and children rights. She is the first Iranian and the first Muslim woman to receive the prize. ( i found her in wikipedia) :chai:

Re: Women Role Models

Margaret Thatcher - a true iron lady :k:

when i looked at the title, this was the name that came to my mind at once. (& i was surprised to see post # 2 - had the same name)

One of the best politicians & Economists - she was the advocate of Capitalism (free trade etc.). Her government was formed in a very crucial time when Russia was going so strong. The first female PM & opposition leader.
I believe, she was way stronger than the queen who got that title because she was born in the royal family while Thatcher got it all on her own. Just look at her personality - look at the way, she talks.

Ofcourse talking about Muslim females, we have Hazrat Khadija & Hazrat Fatima and many more.
But in today’s world, I don’t really see anyone stronger than Thatcherin Politics, economics & Science etc.

Re: Women Role Models

Please correct me if am wrong but isn’t she the one who was banned or something in Iran - something like that…
am not sure though :bummer:
