As far as I know, there were no woman or women prophet.

There was once a woman who claimed 2 be a prophet but was not.

Woman Prophets never existed because a prophet is expected 2 pray all the time and be on his feet and help others. And fast and so on. Woman become pregnant and have days in which they are considered napak, meaning they cant pray, fast on these days, in pregnancy these things are also difficult.
Therefore this is my theory as 2 why there was no female prophet ....

Islam might not recognise any women prophets, but Judaism and Christianity do.

Some well known prophetesses are

  1. Miriam the sister of Moses (Ex.15v20)
  2. Deborah (Judg.4v4)
  3. Huldah (2 King.22v14)
  4. Anna (Luk.2v36)

Surely a women can be used by God for prophesying future events or to teach God's way the same as any man? Are there any prohibition on a woman being a prophetess in the Quran?

Allah talked with them, sent them angels BUT they didn’t have the TITLE of Prophet. (AS)

I just heard that women were not given prophethood coz they were given motherhood, which is a great burden.

And their were women to teach Gods' way like Hazrat Fatima (as) daughter of the prophet Hazrat Mohammad pbuh.....she as i heard would be the leader of the women in paradise.
She was good wife good mother - someone women can look up on :)

There were certainly, the pious women, in English one may call them Sibyl or something like that but in Islamic terms, they aren't classified as "Prophetess".

Prophet has to go out and preach, lead people, fight them (if necessary), debate them, teach them jurisprudence (which involves sexual problems/rituals/activities) etc.

It suits men.

In the past, there were women who recieved revelations, such as Bibi Mariam, Mothers of Hazrat Musa (as) and Hazrat Ibrahim (as) etc, but i dont think we can call them Prophet/ess as such.

LH, moterhood is not considered a burden, but an honour in Islam.
