I know how to pray and stuff but I don’t know how I am supposed to sit and stand, how to hold my hands in prayer and stuff. Am I getting gunnah for all of the times I have read namaz without knowing the right way how to? I remember seeing a book as a kid with illustrations in it and I was wondering if there are any websites out there with illustrations so I can see.
Sarah, once you click on which part you want to learn, if you click on the red tv image, it will come up with a recorded video of a boy saying his prayers. You will probably need something like RealPlayer to view it though. Hope it helps! Insha’Allah. smile
^ hey munni :) is it true that females pray differently to men? ive always placed my hands around my tummy but i got told off in pakistan and was asked to place them on my chest...
As-Salaam-o-Alaikum. You could go to your local masjid and InshaAllah, somebody can show you the correct way. I found this site pretty useful.

hope that helps
Sadzz, I think that is cultural.
^ thought so... my dad's a hafiz (alhamdulillah) and he learnt the Quran from various mosques... and he tells me the way people pray varies from one mosque to another..
NO… it’s not cultural.. it’s religious… according to Ahnaaf, women ought to place the hands on their chest!
their rukoo is different, unlike men who have to go much down in rukoo, women just have to go enough down that they can touch their knees..
similarly, for the sajdah, they have to do it differently by touching elbows and whole body to the earth as opposed to men’s prayer…
also, their sit in a different manner too..
Keep in mind, i am talking about School of thougth of Imam Abu Hanifa:rehm:

Sarah :)
Ask someone who you really care for to teach you how to pray namaz. This is because then every time you pray in your life, they will get sawaab as well. Maybe your parents or a cousin or friend? Think about who you would like to give this sawab and izzat to...
And Allah o Alim, but I really doubt you were getting gunah because Allah swt looks at the niyat.
sadzzz, depends on the school of thought. I am not Hanafi in particular so I dont pray the same way that Anwaar described. I place my hands above the navel but not on the chest either. I personally dont believe women pray differently than men, my sources dont tell me that.
Some Malikis dont raise their hands. They keep them to the side. So just depends on which school or imam you follow for that. You can pretty much find references for many of these different methods. smile

thanx Munni
ive always prayed like my brother cus we taught ourselves the namaz from a book.. and we copied the illustrations and what dad had taught us… therefore it never occurred to me to put my hands on my chest… but ever since ive returned from pakistan, ive been placing it on my chest… either way, its the niyat that matters
Assalamo alaykum warahmatullah wabarakatuh,
This is a very good website (also available in softcover) for correcting one’s prayer, insha’Allah.
