COPENHAGEN, Denmark, June 21 (UPI) – Dutch researchers say women’s brains must be at ease with their partner to reach orgasm while men’s brains focus on the meaning of being touched sexually.
Researchers from the University of Groningen in Holland said their study of 11 male and 13 female volunteers is believed to be the first to use positive emission tomography, or PET, brain scans during orgasm.
Lead researcher Gert Holstege said PET scans showed men’s and women’s brains process genital touching differently.
“For women the primary feeling is there, but for men it is much more about what it means when they are being touched,” Holstege told the London Daily Telegraph.
“When a woman makes love she needs to feel she is being protected and must not feel any fear,” Holstege said. “There was deactivation in the parts of the brain dealing with fear and alertness.”
Researchers presented their findings to the annual meeting of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology in Copenhagen, Denmark.
If men could climax for two minutes they would have the power too shoot lasers from their eyes.
Holstege said he had trouble getting reliable results from the study on men because the scanner needs activities lasting at least two minutes and the men's climaxes didn't last that long. However, the scans did show activation of reward centers in the brain for men but not for women.
I read about this study in the paper yesterday. These studies are never conclusive as one could never be relaxed having sex in front of watching scientists. Furthermore having your head inside the scanner and not freely able to move can't have helped either. Its a far cry to the comfortability and privacy of a bedroom where the real animal is unleashed.
