its incorrect to think other people with other causes will not take on the state of pakistan. the mentality of the people is such. the state must remain reasonable with the expectations of the people. and lets not kid ourselves many in pakistan want further increments towards peaceful islamification of society. the western model will not work in pakistan, because pakistan is only unified under the 'la illaha illallah' moto from north to south.
if you envision pakistan to become a 'western' like country you will have many incidences of outrage, of non compliance, of difference not always religious related.
the lal masjid issues should have been handled with promises of law and order by the state regarding brothels. the land should have been eventually sold to the school. instead both issues were handled without consideration, which led to one of the worst disagreements between a school and the state in worldwide history.
today you have a situation where the religious people (mazbi) dont believe the state is on their side. lal masjid decided to take them on with that very same belief
