I find it so sad. So many men that I come across are not too concerned about finishing school or continue studying for a while. Instead, most of them seem to be looking to become entrepreneurs or are looking for occupations that can get them a job fast, so that they can settle down.
The reason I find it sad is because if you quit school so early, chances are that you may not be able to secure a good job in the future. As for entrepreneurship, it is a good idea; however, many businesses fail. Therefore, by having some decent education, one could always find a reasonable job.
On the other hand, I see more career driven and ambitious women, which is good, but it is sort of getting difficult to find the same in men. Not that all or most men are like that, but for some reason many that I keep coming across aren’t so ambitious.
Re: Women are becoming more ambitious and career-driven
The paradigm is shifting. I know of a couple of desi men who have opted to stay home and raise kids while their wives have career jobs. These guys are as educated but were sick n tired of job politics and thought it would be kool to stay home. Their wives are fine (in one case, very appreciative) of the new setup.
Re: Women are becoming more ambitious and career-driven
^ Yes its a massive problem in our community. My age-group of girls is the first ones to get into higher-powered careers. And they are looking to other states and even back to Pakistan to find someone by family connections.
Even the Aunties and Uncles are now getting worried by the trend here.
Re: Women are becoming more ambitious and career-driven
so true.. lot of aunties are looking for girls even though their larkays are nikammay..they want hoor pari and university educated girl, back home or here.
now why wud any educated hoor pari wud wanna marry some langoor who is a lazy bum with only high school diploma?
Re: Women are becoming more ambitious and career-driven
It's one thing to opt to stay at home and raise kids and totally another to quit school in the middle or not have the zeal to study on.
Besides, who would want to marry a guy who wants to sit at home and raise kids? I wouldn't mind getting assistance in raising kids and help with the house chores, but I wouldn't feel too comfortable introducing some guy to parents who doesn't have much education or doesn't really want to work hard to excel.
Re: Women are becoming more ambitious and career-driven
Sadiyah, you have indeed pointed out a very true trend that is happening in our society but again, the majority of people are still following the old style. I am all for muslim girls getting top education and working and YES they are doing an excellent job in that department, however, men are not slacking off from education! The reason you see so many ppl trying to become entrepreneurs, and again this is just my observations and experience, is because the job market is getting tougher and tougher and business seems to be a good place to start for long term reason. Business do fail and that is true for any business at any stage.
So, a balance between both would be an awesome thing. I am completing my education inshaAllah and along with it i am doing my internship and parttime jobs to gain industry experience but in my mind i have a goal to start my own business. I have already started a small web development business and its going slow but that's just coz i haven't put fulltime investment in it.
Sitting at home and raising kids .. hmm i will pass on that.. i am all for helping her out, after all they will be my kids too :) so i have to do my job in raising them with her ..
I know alot of guys who dont want to sit at home .. infact they want wife that can stay at home and do all the cooking and cleaning and raising kids while they want to work at some big firm and when they come home want to be treated at kings.. i feel sorry for these guys and i hope their wives don't let them do this.. its really something to be ashamed of..

One time when I was like 13, I made roti for my dad. It came out thick n gooey in teh middle and my mother looked as if she was abou tto throw the bailan at me But my dad ate every bite of it as if it were my mother’s big fluffy garam rotis
