Woman

If we look at many cultures and societies around the world, we can see that this prejudiced view of women is quite prevalent. In pak society, India, China, the Middle East, and other places, women and girls continue to suffer in large scale due to prejudices held common by society. This is no small matter.

These low ideas are repeated to us day by day..

Women are emotional, while men are rational
Women have nine times more desire than men (this is actually a hadith), therefore women must be kept in seclusion (according to one book on pashtun society)
Women cannot be relied upon (advice 12 of the “one hundred advices of luqman”)

Women are less intelligent than men

The scientific truth is often opposite.. and in intelligence, neither is more intelligent than the other. However since based on these prejudices educational opportunities are more often given to boys, we have basically created the evidence of women being less intelligent than men for ourselves.

Also based on these prejudices we have justified our patriarchal society, which puts men in charge of women and generally treats females as either children who need discipline, or criminals who need punishment. This is a major cause of violence against women in our Muslim societies as well as other highly patriarchal societies - it is a cause of countless years of unnecessary and brutal violence against our mothers, sisters, and daughters.

Marx has correctly said, “the bourgeois sees in his wife merely a system of production”. What he failed to say however was that its not only bourgeois - middle and high class businessmen - who have this view of women.. the proletariat - the common people - also look at women like this.

When a disease sweeps through a city, it doesnt discriminate between rich and poor. Likewise, when prejudices sweep through, they contaminate everyone in society. Even women themselves are guilty of continuing these prejudices.

I say its time to end it. What do you gangsters have to say?

You…you…get into my car.

Until cultures and religions become more moderate, its not happening. I mean Islaam dictates that a woman should dress moderately. It doesnt say they should cover themselves from head to foot in a ridiculous tent. It says that women should be good wives and tend to hearth and home. It doesnt say they should remain uneducated, doesnt say that they need to hide at home. A woman CAN take care of hearth and home while enjoying a career if that is her choice. Marriage should be a partnership, not an "ownership". Many men look at it this way, like a wife is personal property. This is a fundamental problem that will not be easy to overcome in a society like pak. Not till the women band together in concerted efforts to overcome these age-old cultural barriers.

I was lucky enough to see both sides of this coin. I enjoyed a wall street career for a number of years before becoming a stay-at-home mom. My choice, my personal preference and I wouldnt trade with anyone on the planet. But I would be a different person if I were denied education, made to feel that it wasnt worthwhile to educate me since I'm destined to just stay at home and have babies. There are vast numbers of women in Pak who have an enormous chip on their shoulders because they have never and will never get an opportunity to prove themselves in "the world". These are what I call the "wives of discontent", always needing to prove themselves smarter than anyone else. People see right thru that and pity their discontent. But thats a bit off the subject.

Men truly have it easier. Having seen both sides....when you have a professional career, you have stress and a busy life. But intellectual challenge is stimulating. WHen you are a wife and mother at home raising babies, your job is 24/7 and it is emotionally and physically draining - not stimulating. A much harder thing to do and do well. I cannot imagine many men being able to cope. So what does this say about women and men?? Women can handle both or either situation. Men cannot.

I dont know if I answered your question very well but these are core issues that would need to be resolved before the prejudiced view of women can be overcome I think.

i have a book called "women if ideologies and religions"....
too bad i cant share it with u here....

Re: Woman

who wrote it?

Re: Woman

Women have been taken advantage of and it continues on , wether its women in the western world or the eastern . It just depends on how u look at it . For those who say women are treated unfairly in Islam , as in the religion not was society dictates , let them study Islam . They may refuse to accept it infront of other people , but inside their homes in seclusion they will know the truth. As for wat society dictates and where it places women , change can only occur if people actually learn instead of following blindly .

Re: Woman

"Women have nine times more desire than men " - you would have to work very very hard to turn us on first... half of you cant even do that.

Freedom never came on its on, one has to fight for it. I strongly feel as women from our society will say No and take charge of things. This world will see some peace then.
