Juanita Stead was rushed to hospital on New Year’s Eve for what she thought was a kidney stone, but left with a baby boy.

Ms. Stead, now a mother of two, says she had no idea she was pregnant until an X-ray technician delivered the news.

“This is some kidney stone, isn’t it,” the Newfoundland woman said while cuddling her newborn, Nicholas. “We’re all still in shock. We just can’t believe it.”

Ms. Stead, of Port de Grave, on the province’s Conception Bay, says her period continued during the pregnancy, she didn’t have any morning sickness and didn’t put on extra weight.

But while at a New Year’s Eve party with her husband, Terry, she started having back pain.

And with the pain escalating, she went to hospital, where an X-ray showed something besides a kidney stone.

"The technician looked at me and said, ‘My dear, you’re pregnant with a full-term baby.’ And I said: ‘No sir, you got the wrong woman and you’re looking at the wrong screen. There is no way I’m pregnant.’ "

But the disbelieving mom-to-be was taken to the case room, and Nicholas entered the world.

“Bum first,” said Dr. Olalekan Akintola, who delivered the baby, “which is quite rare now. Babies that are born breached are usually delivered by caesarean section, but there was no time to do this with this little guy – he was already coming.”

When Terry called the baby’s grandparents with the good news, they didn’t believe him at first.

“When I told Juanita’s mom she didn’t have a kidney stone, but a baby instead, she told me to go to bed,” he laughed. “And my mother told me to give up telling lies.”

It’s not the first time the couple have been caught off guard by a baby.

Ms. Stead’s other child, Cameron, was born July 30, 2006 at home. While she knew she was expecting a baby, Cameron arrived two months early.

“I felt like I had to go to the bathroom and out he popped, right into the toilet,” she said. “Terry actually scooped him out of the toilet and put him in my lap until the ambulance came.”

WOW!!!!!!! The woman says she experience no morning sickness nor did she put on extra weight. Hmmm, what an enviable pregnancy.

With such easy pregnancies and labor, she should consider surrogacy for women who can't bear a child for unfortunate reasons.. she seems to be an easy-bake-oven!

I am not buying this story.

So she never missed her period.
Never felt the baby move.

Didn't gain any weight?
Her stomach never changed it's shape and size ONE BIT??

I thought the same thing as well. I mean I can understand if a woman is a couple of months pregnant and not aware of it. But how on earth do you carry a baby full term (9 months, mind you) and not once wonder to yourself, "Hmm, something doesn't seem quite right here, might I be preggers?"

It does seem odd. Considering that she already has a previous child, you'd think she'd be aware if she were pregnant the second time around. I wonder what the doctors thought of her. Maybe they were contemplating doing psychological examination after delivering her baby.

One of my "Gore" friends had a baby and she didn't relize she was pregnant....

Stories like this make me think

So clearly if these ladies don’t realise they’re pregnant, they obviously don’t do a lot of things that are highly recommended for pregnant women, i.e. take folic acid in first three months, avoid this, avoid that, do this, don’t do that, etc. and yet their kids turn out normal.

How interesting.

My cousin became a father yesterday after 10 years of marriage. They had tried all sorts of therapies and had almost given up the hope. 1 month ago, his wife felt pain in abdomen (she is a heavy lady), went to doctor who did ultrasound and found a baby with estimated age of 8 months!!

And yesterday she has given birth to a baby boy.
