More than a quarter of a century and nobody found out!
Where are human rights organizations?
Where are feminists of India? Busy advertising plight of Pakistani women?
The family says that she “was not mistreated and was given food and water regularly.”
Maybe for some people keeping a woman naked in a few feet high outhouse without any proper flooring for more than a quarter century is not mistreatment. Bravo!
No this is mistreatment..i think all Indians agree. And she won't need 4 witnesses to prove she was locked up and the prime minister won't disallow her from talking to the foreign press. Her passport won't be revoked and visa's will be issued. your point is?
PD, he is looking to get it on with the women thinking that he can mold her anyway he wants...afterall she had no contact with the rest of the world for 25 years.
I agree with you. You know what…when something of the sort happens in Pakistan, we’re told that it happened *because *we’re Muslims and because we’re Pakistanis. All of us become chauvinist pigs who actually support these horrible customs. Pseudo-liberals are the only people who really care about our women. And trust me! Pseudo-liberals they are.
But when the same thing happens in other countries, it becomes an isolated incident. Then we must not talk about their nationality, religion or customs. Crime is a crime. And criminals here become nothing but ordinary criminals. We don’t need to look into their social institutions to find underlying problems.
Next time when something like this happens in Pakistan, I want our pseudo-liberals and their Indian feminist allies not to attribute it to our faith or our nationality. There are sick people everywhere. But as Munazza pointed out, they’re plain sick. They need to be tackled through law enforcement and through social, institutional and legislative reforms. But these incidents must not be exploited to harm the people of any faith or any nationality.
We want to see uniformity of principles when it comes to the issues of human rights abuses anywhere in the world. And I support more pro-active approach to tackle such problems in Pakistan.
You can make a difference. Do what I did. When a conversation starts to derail into something it shouldn’t be, cut it short. Nip it in the bud.
Put people back on track. Re-focus the attention to the really important stuff. You’ll find that the chauvinism and all other negative influences fall by the wayside.
This is sad. I hope she recovers and experienced some happiness from now on. If her own mom and brother did this, it's probably illiterate stupidity rather than malice. But it does make one sick to think about. I wish things never go wrong for anyone.
