Yes but Prophet Muhammd (pbuh) never ordered his Ummah to keep a beard...it is your personal choice.
You will not be judged by how you wear your shalwar..or the length of your beard...but by your deeds.
Islam teaches us to dress modestly...its a term that is defined by our individual understanding...sure....if people are staring at you..then you obviously are not dressed according to the Divine Guidance.
but the beard really doesnt qualify as 'following' our Prophet(pbuh)..because there are people who keep a beard, but are not muslims...hence the relationship of a beard with Islam is non-relevant.
