Its in Chitraal district of NWFP (now Khyberpakhtunkhah). Kalash valley is also known as Kafristaan (land of kafirs) in Pakistan.

Are the pagan, I mean nature worshippers, how is education among them??

no idea about meghalaya but as for as I know, adi, apang tribes in Arunachal are patriarchal:)

I agree with LK that the women were supressed especially in olden times, a few women dieties dont mean that they have been leading. Burying girl childs alive, and sati were prevelant. The funtionalities and working of both male and female are different.

Sati and Burying alive are relatively new concepts started after 1000 AD, Hinduism changes very ofter, its hinduism character to change:). Vedic times doesn’t mention a single case of Sati burning:)

Mata Sati burned herself when Bhagwan Shiv was being humiliated by her Father-in-Law, but in Sati pratha, widows were burned alive if husband dies:), it was most heinous practice without any theological assent given to it:(
