:salam2:
In Pakistan, the house is ruled by in majority of husbands. We can say 98% ruler of the house are males and only 2% rulers are female i.e. wives. Here ‘ruler’ meant ‘ghar ka sarbarah jis ka sb hukam mantain hain’. But in northern area of Pakistan, there is a beautiful valley which called ‘Kalash’. Kalash is not only beautiful by naturely greenish views, but also have a very important history and that is the ruler of every house is Kalash are ‘females’.
The wives rules over the husband and poor husband can’t do anything without their permission
That doesn’t mean the husband works like the wives work at home. No, they work outside means do all man related works and kalash women do all women related works but eventually ruler are wives.
Have u ever heard such thing
Re: Wives of Kalash Valley
Historically all the societies were Matriarchal (woman leading the family). Even agriculture is said to be the invention of women. In all old religions including Hinduism and Arab religion before Islam, we found many goddesses to prove that women not only headed families, but were powerful in other social aspects too.
With the change of time and change in lifestyle, human society transformed from matriarchal to patriarchal (in other words male dominated society), but in remote areas like Kailash and may be some African tribes, women are still given leadership of families.
Re: Wives of Kalash Valley
I disagree with your first para. In past the women didn't had freedom like these days.
Re: Wives of Kalash Valley
You mean freedom like Veena Malik and likes have nowadays?
Re: Wives of Kalash Valley
No I said in sense that where female buried alive, sold out like sheep etc.,
Re: Wives of Kalash Valley
Then today's woman is also buried alive by suppressing her wishes and as far as selling of woman like a sheep, woman is still treated like a commodity from so called developed countries to religious societies. We claim that Islam has given rights to woman, but we know Muslims have not followed those teachings properly.
Re: Wives of Kalash Valley
Where is this valley?? Gilgit-Baltistan:confused:
and patriarchal society is better than matriarchal society:)
Re: Wives of Kalash Valley
Its in Chitraal district of NWFP (now Khyberpakhtunkhah). Kalash valley is also known as Kafristaan (land of kafirs) in Pakistan. :)
Re: Wives of Kalash Valley
it works similar with meghalaya tribes in india
Re: Wives of Kalash Valley
I agree with LK that the women were supressed especially in olden times, a few women dieties dont mean that they have been leading. Burying girl childs alive, and sati were prevelant. The funtionalities and working of both male and female are different.

Sati and Burying alive are relatively new concepts started after 1000 AD, Hinduism changes very ofter, its hinduism character to change:). Vedic times doesn't mention a single case of Sati burning:)
Mata Sati burned herself when Bhagwan Shiv was being humiliated by her Father-in-Law, but in Sati pratha, widows were burned alive if husband dies:), it was most heinous practice without any theological assent given to it:(
Re: Wives of Kalash Valley
Yes Ali, but women are still not empowered in those areas. I recently read a book by Sher Shah Syed (I already mentioned in some other thread). He is working for the women affected by fistula (a curable small disease), but due to traditions in our male dominated society for so called ghairat which gets hurt by medical examination of women, the women (mostly belonging to northern areas) suffered and were disowned by their family due to their disease. Fistula is a disease where due to complication while giving birth to babies, some minor holes are created in urine places and then patients don't have control over drops. Women are then treated as achhoots by their family, who even can't pray due to their disease. We have made atom bomb, but our behavior towards women is still the same as was in cave age.
Re: Wives of Kalash Valley
The Kalash are a people who inhabit an area overlapping Afghanistan and Northern Pakistan. In particular, they are Indo-European, like the Persians. They settled in what is today Pakistan, in several valleys near Chitral, to the North of Mingaora, close to the present Afghani border. It is believed by some that the people has roots in Nuristan, to the North of Jalalabad in Afghanistan. Some say they are descended from people who intermarried with the armies of Alexander the Great. If you look at photos of the Kalash people, you will find interesting racial features that differ from the dominant peoples of the Indian Subcontinent.
The Kalash or Kalasha religion is a pre-Islamic polytheistic religion of this mountain people. Most of the people in this region became Muslim with the Islamic conquests. But, for some reason, the Kalash resisted this and maintain their ancient Vedic religion. Vedic religions predate Hinduism. As such, there are many similarities, since both the Kalash religion and Hinduism derive from these ancient Vedic religions.
Regarding your question about education (Taleem), I remember a scene from PTV Dram back in late 90’s, where a Kalash girl asked shehri Babu ‘taileem :hmm: ye Taileem kia hota hai’. On a serious note, some NGOs are working for education of the Kalash people and have empowered women to some extent. Kalash people are beautiful and wear beautiful attires and dance.
Re: Wives of Kalash Valley
^^
iam sorry to say there is no such thing as vedic religions.
they may call it with it's new name hinduism,i can say it's just way of life...
dunno much about kalash religion, but i can say they have nothing in common with vedic stuff
in hinduism or whatever u call it vedas are part of everyday rituals, all the vedic stuff like yagas are done by pleasing fire god and all other natue gods..
pancha bhutas(five elements) are part of hinduism
