Wrong assumption so whole theory is wrong - In west not only a man can abandon his wife, but a woman can abandon her husband. I do not have any data, but I think the latter happens more often. As for the scurity - divorce mostly plays in favor of women and also since they are educated they can go out and work (most of them are anyways working). The society does not look down upon them as in the east.
Although your assumptions are wrong, I still think the eastern system is better for the family.
