Last year, I went to dentist for check up as got pain and sore gums. After all X-rays and whole examining I had been told that wisdom teeth are coming up on both sides and causing much pain on right side.
He told me that he was referring me to the hospital for the removal of those. I informed him that I never been with dentist before as had quite healthy teeth. He suggested I would be given anaesthesia during this dental surgery to keep me save from pain and fear. He prescribed an antibiotic course. I completed that. I was called at hospital after a month for all other examining and testing to prepare me for the operation. The doctor paid a lot of attention to keep me out of fear and explained the whole procedure. They scanned all my teeth again, and she was holding the scan to explain, why did I need the removal. Date for this was given in last July. But after this whole situation my teeth get well. Mainly, I was so scared of anaesthesia couldn’t manage to prepare my mind for this. I refused to get operated right on the day when every thing was ready for surgery and then was given another date in Oct. but I called them, “I am so scared of anaesthesia, its not hurting anymore I don’t want another date, don’t want to get it done”.
But now again by last 4 weeks my right side wisdom teeth is aching a lot, gums are swollen. Time to time its hurting me again and again. I don’t want that kind of removal. Is there any other way to relieve pain and swelling. Should I go to dentist? He would be saying " I referred you to hospital for removal and you are still with them" but he also know she is too sensitive as was in tears when he checked my teeth. Might be he’ll give me some other medicine.
What should I do?
Re: Wisdom Teeth
I was very scared as well....I have never had surgery in my life before. But once they give you small drip, you feel peaceful and go to sleep. Basically you do not feel anything. You will be awaken and you will feel like you jus fell asleep 2 mins ago. Make sure they have registered nurses with you during surgery and experienced dentist. I also did not want to get the surgery and ended up getting infection and then had to take anti biotics. However it is definetely not worth it. It is better to take them out becuz too many anti biotics can really mess up your system and will stay with you for long time.
If you want to avoid anaesthesia, there are many dentists who perform surgery without it. But I am not sure if you would like to get 5- 6 shots in your mouth and watch him pull your teeth out rather then sleeping in peace and letting him do his work.
Re: Wisdom Teeth
Thats an understatement. Once you feel the anasthesia flowing in your veins, it suddenly dawns on you why people do drugs. Absolutely blissful.

Did they remove your both teeth? if I have pain in right one why do they want to remove left one as well? How long it would take you to be well, after removal? Were you in 100% sense after surgery? Doc suggested that there must be a person to stay with me at home for 1 day or so (don't remember exactly) after operation.
and has your all pain/swelling gone now?
Re: Wisdom Teeth
the best way to remove your wisdom teeth would be to go fully under. once you're fully unconcscious, they start the procedure, and you don't feel a thing.
however, when you wake up, you're groggy for a good couple of hours and in a lot of pain. you need someone to drive you home, and look after you for at least a couple of days.
depending on how many teeth get taken out, the more swelling you are going to have. you also bleed from your gums, but the doctor gives you those gauze pads that you put in your mouth and it absorbs the blood..
just make sure the doctor prescribes some tylenol 3 cause you're really gonna need it for the pain. that stuff knocks you out, and it's just better if you sleep through it.
i had my four teeth taken out, and i needed at least one week to recover. you can't eat anything, other than take in liquids for the first couple of days because your jaw just doesn't open. things like jello and pudding can help get some food into your system
don't mean to scare you :p but it's important to have days off after the surgery to recover completely.
good luck!

Re: Wisdom Teeth
i am an anesthesist myself..and i know it;s only 2 drugs that we inject for tooth extraction..one is to put the patient to sleep..a sedative in a bit higher doses than we normally use for sleeplessness and the other is a painkiller..and we dont even call it full anesthesia..we call it SEDATION !!! no tubes or artificial respiration (which is always a part of general anesthesia/getting fully 'under') so..dont you get scared at all from the anesthesia part PLEASE!! jub tak anesthetist apna kaam karega..apkay daant bahir specimen tray may hongay..it will hardly take few mins..
and i have got both my wisdom tooth extracted..i had problem with one and got the second one out as i didnt want to go thru all the pain and procedure and time-wasting for the another one..we call it prophylactic treatment !!
good luck :)
Re: Wisdom Teeth
Thanks smilestar, Married NY and prototype.
I'm gonna see dentist on Monday. Actually, I've to be strong enough this time, so wouldn't bother them by refusing exact at surgery time.

Dentist has given me antibiotic for the infection, and told me that he was going to refer me to the hospital for extraction. I think this time as have learnt lesson would not try to “ElOpe” from the hospital.![]()
