share the stories of your wisdom teeth, if you have some! how was the experience? did you carry around orajel? did you get 'em pulled?
Re: Wisdom Teeth Chronicles
My wisdom teeth were really impacted, so that they were growing completely horizontally and causing all sorts of problems. At 18, I had one side removed. They wanted to give me general anesthesia because they said they would need to crack my teeth and it may be disturbing for me, but I was really freaked out by the idea of general anesthesia and so I went local. I was awake the entire time. I felt pressure, but no pain. I bled for a while afterward. My father went crazy buying baby food and applesauce, only a bit of which I managed to eat (baby food is gross). At 22 I got the other side removed; similar experience.
My brother just got his out a year or two ago. He had SEVEN (yes, SEVEN!) wisdom teeth. The surgeon said he'd never heard of that many at a time (though six he was aware of).
i was so freaked out about getting my wisdom teeth pulled...when the dentist put the needle in my arm i instantly grabbed his arm and shook it...i was saying "please no, please no"...but then i sat on my hands and starting making "lalala" noises and i went to sleep. i had four teeth removed. my dentist left these nerve things intact (they felt like plastic filaments sticking out of my gum) and i am not sure if that made a difference, but i had no pain. i was really surprised. after i came back from the dentist, i was really groggy and slept from 11 am in the morning to 5 am the next day. I had blood on my pillow but I was so relieved I wasn't hurting. I didn't even use any of my medicine. I went to Pakistan like 5 days later with no problems for the entire trip.

from all the posts above, you've all had yours removed. do some folks keep theirs intact?
Re: Wisdom Teeth Chronicles
Three of them (2 on one side and 1 on the other) were not fully grown and were hidden in the gums. Creepy!
Re: Wisdom Teeth Chronicles
I will be going for mine soon. bottom ones for now, and I'm nt looking forward to it. I will be given general anesthesia but im still scared that it will hurt once I am all awake =(
Re: Wisdom Teeth Chronicles
mine are supposedly functional :s ...so the dentist didnt touch them.
Re: Wisdom Teeth Chronicles
so if you get functional wisdom teeth...your dentist wont pull ;em out? (i hope mine come out functional).
for the peeps go had to get theirs pulled out...what reasons did your dent give you?
Re: Wisdom Teeth Chronicles
Mine were literally growing horizontally, causing a lot of pain and shifting in other teeth. Also, what happens is that when they don't grow straight up, bacteria gets caught underneath them and your brush and mouthwash can't clean them, causing bad cavities, etc.
Re: Wisdom Teeth Chronicles
mine are entirely horizontal and the dentist said if they weren't hurting me, to leave 'em alone. he was like, they look fully grown and ain't goin' nowhere. im totally happy with that diagnosis! :p
AHH The HORROR.
