Wisdom Of The Sahabah

Abu Wa'il reported that Ibn Mas'ood saw a man lowering his Izaar and ordered him to lift it up.

But the man said: 'You too, Ibn Mas'ood, lift up your Izaar.'

Ibn Mas'ood said: 'My legs are thin and I lead people inrayers.'

When the news reached 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, he beat the man saying: 'How dare you argue with Ibn Mas'ood!'

Book 031, Number 5915:
This hadith has been narrated. on the authority of Shu’ba with the same chain of transmitters. Amir b. Sa’d b. Abi Waqqas reported on the authority of his father that Muawiya b. Abi Sufyin appointed Sa’d as the Governor and said: What prevents you from abusing Abu Turab (Hadrat 'Ali), whereupon be said: It is because of three things which I remember Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) having said about him that I would not abuse him and even if I find one of those three things for me, it would be more dear to me than the red camelg. I heard Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) say about 'Ali as he left behind hrin in one of his campaigns (that was Tabuk). 'All said to him: Allah’s Messenger, you leave me behind along with women and children. Thereupon Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) said to him: Aren’t you satisfied with being unto me what Aaron was unto Moses but with this exception that there is no prophethood after me. And I (also) heard him say on the Day of Khaibar: I would certainly give this standard to a person who loves Allah and his Messenger and Allah and his Messenger love him too . He (the narrator) said: We have been anxiously waiting for it, when he (the Holy Prophet) said: Call 'Ali. He was called and his eyes were inflamed. He applied saliva to his eyes and handed over the standard to him, and Allah gave him victory. (The third occasion is this) when the (following) verse was revealed:" Let us summon our children and your children." Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) called 'Ali, Fitima, Hasan and Husain and said: O Allah, they are my family.

** zer01 ** - You just could not help jumping into this thread.

It is the well-known fact in the history that Hazrat Muawiyah (ra) fought Imam Ali (ra). They both considered each other as Muslims just as much as themselves in all the aspects of beliefs.

If you believe that Hazrat Muwiyah (ra) had ordered people to curse Hazrat Ali (ra), then this goes against you!

Hazrat Hassan bin Ali (ra) had relinquished the Khilafaat in favour of Hazrat Muawiyah (ra), do you think a son like Hazrat Hassan (ra) will relinquish the Khilafaat in favour on some one who had ordered for his father to be cursed! This is beyond the likes of Hazrat Hassan (ra).

It is also a well-known fact also that Hazrat Ali’s second son, Hazrat Hussein – Allah be well-pleased with both of them – accepted reconciliation with Muawiya and gave him his pledge (baya) and was accepting annual ‘monies’ from Hazrat Muawiyah (ra).

How could a dutiful son like Hazrat Hussein (ra) accept any money and gifts from a man that curses his father? This is beyond the likes of Hazrat Hussein (ra).

Now please check what this Shia website has to say about cursing of Hazrat Ali (ra).

http://www.imamreza.net/old/eng/islam/history/marwan.htm

"During the days of Marwan, the Shi’ites disappeared, for they feared for their souls and properties. Al-Mas’udi said: "The believers disappeared. The Shi’ites were sought in the cities of the land. Their blood was shed in vain, and their properties were (confiscated). **They (the Marwanis) cursed (Imam 'Ali), the Commander of the faithful, peace be on him, on their pulpits. ** - (Ithba`t al-Wasiya, p. 168).

Marwan was fond of cursing Imam 'Ali, the Commander of the faithful, peace be on him. He cursed him on the pulpits every Friday when he was the governor of Medina (Yathrib). (Hayat al-Imam al-Ba`qir, vol. 2, p. 16). "

Note:

Marwan that is referred to in the above site is Marwan b. al-Hakam the Bani Umayyah Khalif, who came to power about five years after the death of Hazrat Muawiyah (ra).

This Shia site does not mention Hazrat Ali being cursed in the time of Hazrat Muawiyah (ra)! This cannot be due to oversight, but that they know the facts.

The rightly-guided caliph, Umar ibn Abd al- Aziz (ra), stopped the practice of cursing Hazart Ali (ra) saying: “Those from whose blood Allah has kept our hands exempt, we shall not soil with it our tongues.”

Referring to the hadith that you have quoted, Imam al-Nawawi has said: "The ulamas said: Any hadith that appear to refer to intra-Sahaba enmity is interpreted figuratively. In this hadith there is nothing that states that Muawiya actually ordered Sad to curse `Ali, but he only asked him for the reason why he refrained from cursing him: was it Godwariness? in which case, well done; or fear? etc.

It may be that Sad was observed among a group that cursed Ali, but he himself abstained from it although unable to reprimand them, then they were subsequently reprimanded, and Muawiya asked him this question. Another possible interpretation is: What prevented you from proving Ali wrong in his opinion and ijtihad, and tell people the rightness and correctness of our position and ijtihad?"

During the battle of Siffin Amir al-mu’minin heard some of his men abusing the Syrians, then he said:

*"I dislike you starting to abuse them, but if you describe their deeds and recount their situations that would be a better mode of speaking and a more convincing way of arguing. Instead of abusing them you should say, “O’ Allah! save our blood and their blood, produce reconciliation between us and them, and lead them out of their misguidance so that he who is ignorant of the truth may know it, and he who inclines towards rebellion and revolt may turn away from it.” * - Nahjul-Balaghah, Sermon 205

Pay heed to the wise words of Hazrat Ali (ra). By Syrians Hazrat Ali (ra) means Hazrat Muawiyah (ra) and his followers.

The Prophet (SAW) said: *“Let none of you should come to me with anything (negative) about any of my Companions!” (Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi from Ibn Mas`ud) and “Fear Allah with regard to my Companions! Do not make them targets after me!” * (al-Tirmidhi and Ahmad).

At least you could have posted some wise words from Hazrat Ali (ra) as well.

:smack:

^^ O comon Ibn Sadique!

Could’nt you see that colored bold sentences in the hadith I posted?? What I posted was only the virtues of Ali (as) from your Sahih book and thats all. What made you think that it was something else??

O mere bhai, why should I say that. What I posted above are not my words. Its written in your own Sahih book. You should believe that not me. If you dont believe in that book then its not my fault. But this definately make you munker-e-hadith and munkar of the Sahih books.

Sorry I did not read your whole post cause I dont want any explanation on the things that are clear to every one. Even muslim wrote in his sahih book. And you also dont need to give any reference from shia books or quote any shia websites to refute it because it is already written in your own sunni history books. I have atleast a dozen references of sunni books on this matter. If you wish I can PM them to you or any other reader of this post

Here is one of them again from sahih muslim](http://www.usc.edu/dept/MSA/fundamentals/hadithsunnah/muslim/031.smt.html#031.5924). And instead putting any blaim on me go ahead and ask Muslim or the naraotor of the hadith first. If its a lie (as you believe) then why they write it in their sahih. If not then at least try to be honest with your own beliefs!

I always read the whole posts not just the high-lighted bits. Don’t worry, I don’t have problem with hadith from reliable sources, neither do I deny them. There is no blame on you; you did what you had to do. On my part I had to do what I must.

In your post I saw another Sahabi being targeted, maybe not intentionally by you, just part of the package. I don’t really care if you don’t want to ‘buy’ my explanations, at least some of the viewers may.

The books that I respect are full of praises for all the Sahabah and Ahlul Bayt (May Allah (swt) be pleased with them all). You may be aware that we consider many more members of Ahlul Bayt (May Allah (swt) be pleased with them all) than what you do.

Now to the topic at hand.

More sayings of Hazrat Abu Bakr as-Siddique (ra)

*About knowledge, he said: *

The more knowledge you have, the greater will be your fear of Allah.

Without knowledge action is useless and knowledge without action is futile.

Knowledge is the life of the mind.

When a noble man learns knowledge he becomes humble, [whereas] when an ignoble person gains knowledge, he [becomes] conceited.

When knowledge is limited - it leads to folly. [But] when knowledge exceeds a certain limit, it leads to exploitation.

** In the matter of advice, he said: **

When you seek advice, do not withhold any facts from the person whose advice you seek.

When you advise any person you should be guided by the fear of God.

If anybody seeks your advice; offer right and sincere advice.

He, who is not impressed by sound advice, lacks faith.

*About kindness he said: *

If you expect the blessings of God, [then] be kind to His people.

He who aspires to paradise should learn to deal with people with kindness.

He who fears to weep, should learn to be kind to those who weep.

About the way of life he said:

"Follow the way of life, which the Holy Prophet has shown you, for verily that is the right path".

With regard to prayers, he said:

"He who prays five times a day is in the protection of God, and he who is protected by God cannot be harmed by anyone."
