Wireless Router

My Desktop PC is in the kitchen so I’ve got mama and papi over my head almost 24/7 which isn’t very good when I want to knock a few rounds off, now I’d like to take it to my room but what good is it without an Internet connection? I don’t want the cable wire going around the house because we’ve got marble floor downstairs and wooden upstairs so it will just look poor because we have no carpet to hide it under, whilst over the door frames/skirting board it will also look tacky and it will be hard as anything to secure it into place because the plastered walls are as hard as rock.

Now I want a wireless router but do I need a network of computers or at least two (one plugged into the router) or will it work fine with just one, with the router itself not being connected to any computer but just the cable modem?

Re: Wireless Router

im sorry I dont know

I cant see a place for a battery

Re: Wireless Router

one computer is enough.

so go and buy a wireless router, and a wireless adapter for your PC.

Re: Wireless Router

mouse has no batery because when you moving mouse it make electric energy
same way keybord when you press key it make electric energy

i donno!`

Re: Wireless Router

You dont need to have a computer network, attach the router with cable/DSL modem & thats it. Read the router's manual and u will know how to configure the secure wirelss. Routers dont come as secure wireless configured you need to do it urself.

Good luck.

Re: Wireless Router

Hmmm!
Obviousley you must have microwave oven in the kitchen where you would install your Wireless router and wireless ethernet upstairs. Microwave would interfere with your connection when ever it is used, and that could be in the middle of some important you might be doing , . You should try ‘Fishing’ cable through the ‘dry walls’ or an exterior ( from outside of the house) cable run for upstairs

PS: YES ! You would be sniffed at by “Mobile Technology” Laptop users all the time thanks to your would be “wireless router”

Re: Wireless Router

^^ can get away with disabling the 'ssid name broadcasting' feature... and disabling dhcp, changing default 192.168.1.1 and 0.1's to something different and setting up masking to 255.255.255.248

in the famous words of guppie "let them GUESS your settings" as i believe who can bypass wpa encryption, guess ur scheming of ip and mask, KNOWS your ssid, and channel info, long+short premeable network, deserves free internet :-)

no?

Re: Wireless Router

^ Ammi - Aj say !! :-)

Re: Wireless Router

Unless ofcourse the microwave is used a lot!

Re: Wireless Router

I’d like to say thank you to all who replied with help, I’ve finally got it installed and running, and now AT LAST I can put it to good use with my wifey who is in the States for a few weeks.

Re: Wireless Router

Sniffed meaning? :frowning: Elaborate?

As long as my next door neighbour or parents see what I’m doing with my Internet it’s safe.
