I’ve been experiencing this problem for quite a while. Video files usually work fine; however, often the the video files that are built-in the Internet browser crash my router. As a result, I have to reboot and/or reset the router in order to get back online.
This problem is also experienced at times when I try to watch cricket matches online through the links that are made available.
What could possibly be wrong and how can this be fixed?
Re: Wireless router disconnects when loading built-in Internet browser videos
can u be more specific on how does ur router disconnect when u try to play internet videos? i mean, what happens to it? does it just simply drop the connection instantly when try to play those kind of videos.? Im asking cuz i used to have same exact problem when i first got my wireless router n wireless card. and how do u know dat da problem is in ur wireless router, not in ur wireless adaptar/card.
Re: Wireless router disconnects when loading built-in Internet browser videos
Well when I try to run video files embedded in the Internet browser, first my router loses connection. That is because I see a cross (drop connection) on 'Wireless Network Connection' icon in the area to the right in the taskbar where programs are loaded at bootup (sorry... the term for that area has just slipped out of my mind).
I then try to reconnect, but it doesn't work till I reboot the router. It then works fine after.
I mainly use Firefox. However, I believe I've experienced this problem with IE as well.
My router's at least 2.5 yrs old (Linksys) and I have the latest firmware.
Re: Wireless router disconnects when loading built-in Internet browser videos
yep… like i said up there that i had the same exact problem with my router… at dat time i had one of those old skool linksys routerz; and my net would just go down and disconnect as soon as i try to play any internet videos… and it wouldnt go up again till i reset it… and if i connect my laptop directly to my cable modem, it used to work perfecly fine. so wot i did wz.. i called the linksys customer service and did exactly wot he said and “boom” it started working fine!. All the videos started playing and i never ever had dat kinda problem again. so basically, all i did wz i updated the router firmware (like acrobi mentioned), and then that linksys techie helped me change some of the settings and dats it. however, later i learned that it had something to do with PORT numbers in the old routers. some of the PORTS were just blocked in them, but still couldn’t figure out why it would just disconnect .. anyways, i dont know which router u’ve got.. u can tell us ur router’s name and model and we’ll try to find the firmware for it or u can just google it.
or lets wait for TOFI BABA to come up with the solution.
Re: Wireless router disconnects when loading built-in Internet browser videos
I'm a little afraid of reinstalling the old firmware. I had some problems with the old one due to which the Tech Support suggested that I update my firmware. It's been a while, but I think the problem(s) that I was experiencing with the old firmware was/were fixed.
Re: Wireless router disconnects when loading built-in Internet browser videos
i think the problem is NOT with your router.. rather with your video player.. if you are using windows media player to view these videos in web page.. i would recommend the following:
Try using IE only since Firefox plugins are not completely compatible with Windows Media Player 9+ and depending on how the video is being encoded this can cause great pains..
Uninstall windows media player and then restart and then reinstall the latest windows media plyaer from MS site. After you are done installation run windows update to pick up any patches for windows media player
try this.. the router is not dropping connection.. its the media player network layer that is messing up the connection on wireless that forces to drop the connection.. i knw its weird..
Re: Wireless router disconnects when loading built-in Internet browser videos
I had a similar router (not sure now if it was the exact same one) with similar situation although I hadn’t narrowed it down a particular activity or application. It would intermitently loose connection. I messed around with firmware and settings for a few hours and then just got fed-up with it and threw it out (actually gave it to a friend so they could use the wired-switch portion of it). Considering these things go for $35-50 these days I’d just replace it for one of those new WRT54g devices. Accept for the newest version it has Linux in its core and you can do all kinds of nifty things with it.s
Re: Wireless router disconnects when loading built-in Internet browser videos
First thing to do is to reset it to factory default settings and try it. If it still does that then its the router issue.
Also wireless router works are the frequence of 900mhz. so 900mhz phones, microwave and other devices effect the signal. Are you sure its not one of these items?
