My wireless connection keeps dropping … I’ve got a belkin wireless G notebook card F5D7010 and a D-Link router. I’ve updated the drivers for the card but to no use … it keeps dropping after every 5 minutes or so. I’m not too far away from the AP … I get excellent signal strength in the beginning but then it just disconnects after sometime …
There is cordless phone just next to the AP … I switched it off to see if it makes any difference but it didn’t …
Any other bight ideas? I tried changing the TX fragment length as well but it doesn’t work …
sometimes what happens is some network cards are not compatible with the routers so that might cause a problem. i know for a fact this happens with dlink routers because i used to use d link router but now i use belkin and have no problems. did you try to use a dlink card i think that may solve your problem.
another problem might be that your computer might disable the device everyones in a while.
yeh … while creating this thread I realised that the AP is D-Link and there might be a compatibility issue. But it used to work fine in the beginning … only recently its started to show some attitude …
I get an option called ‘Power Saving Mode’ and I set it to Constantly Awakening Mode (CAM).
I’ve made the changes you’ve suggested because I believe they speed up the DHCP process if the signal drops. BUT, the thing is that I’m in a different environment and I’m not facing the same problem. If I do bump into some hurdles, then I’ll let you know.
well I keep swapping out of frustration .... but at the moment I'm using the windows 802.11 device manager and not the Belkin utility ... and because i'm using the win 802.11 device manager I had to start the Wireless Zero configuration service else I'm unable to manager the device.
But its working fine now .. Alhamdulillah ... the connection doesn't drop that often ... :)
[EDIT]referring to my earlier post, the CAM is the dafult setting for power saving
