[added] sorry was in a hurry at that time to rush something.. and now reading it more thoroughly
when the downstairs connection halts, see if u can disable enable the adaptor.
see if u can disable, physically remove (since its usb) and then physically connect, and enable.
ping or tracert the DIR655 ip address (default: 192.168.0.1) (since windows and every other program is showing u connected, its should show some ping response back or tracing of route to be completed after 1 hop)
(start > cmd > ping 192.168.0.1 and start > cmd > tracert 192.168.0.1)start > cmd > ipconfig /release all and if successful quickly:
ipconfig /renew all
