Wireless connections stops working time to time...

I have a D-LINK DIR655 router upstairs hooked up to the cable modem. Another desktop downstairs is connected with a D-Link USB adapter (Ndraft).. The internet on this desktop does not respond sometimes. A restart of the computer fixes this problem. Here’s the funny thing, in the notification area, it says it’s connected. Also in the Network and Sharing center, it says it’s connected.Tried all different browsers, IM clients, online games..nothing connects so I know for sure there’s no connectivity but windows shows otherwise.
Upstairs desktop which is connected by wire via router is loading up everything just fine.

All drivers are up to date..!
Using windows7 home premium, up2date..!

Re: Wireless connections stops working time to time...

check your firewall configuration!!

Re: Wireless connections stops working time to time...

  1. Change internal network IP setting . Different subnet .
  2. Change default DNS to OpenDNS .
  3. Update firmware of your router .

Re: Wireless connections stops working time to time...

(dartay dartay) bhai saab, I have similar problems with pretty much every Dlink I installed...

anyway, right clicking wireless network adaptor and disabling enabling sometimes works

Re: Wireless connections stops working time to time...

^^ u nailed it confused...i've had similar trouble with dlink stuff...linksys works better...and by far, belkin has given me the least amount of trouble...

Re: Wireless connections stops working time to time...

back from whatever

[added] sorry was in a hurry at that time to rush something.. and now reading it more thoroughly

  1. when the downstairs connection halts, see if u can disable enable the adaptor.

  2. see if u can disable, physically remove (since its usb) and then physically connect, and enable.

  3. ping or tracert the DIR655 ip address (default: 192.168.0.1) (since windows and every other program is showing u connected, its should show some ping response back or tracing of route to be completed after 1 hop)
    (start > cmd > ping 192.168.0.1 and start > cmd > tracert 192.168.0.1)

  4. start > cmd > ipconfig /release all and if successful quickly:

    ipconfig /renew all

[added more] sorry, i dont know windows 7 equivalent clicks and programs for 3 and 4...

i second desimunda. dlink takes a while to reconnect probably cuz of some built in security algo. i was facing same prob. try using usb with a usb extension cable. n keep it away from the desktop. sometimes the usb dev interferes with the rest of the pc.

Checked it out, nothing that jumps out right now. Will check it again when the connection goes down again.

1.hmm
2.
3. up to date!

  1. try it all the time b4 restarting pc, doesn’t work.

  2. this too I tried.

3,4. I ill try both next time it goes down.

Yup, I use the extension, can’t get good signal without it :omg:.

Thanks all. I will report back! (if i remember this thread)

so - DLink = Dabba-Link :D - hey that would make for a nice SSID...

Re: Wireless connections stops working time to time...

LOL!

ShhhHhHHhHhHhhhhh... we dont like 'announcing' SSIDs... we like invisible, mac filter (allow-list) and wpa(psk)

same here man - just contemplating my next hidden SSID.

Re: Wireless connections stops working time to time...

okay try this this
u know how u can goto the router settings
usually by typing 192.168.1.1 , every modem/router has a different ip i think

there should be an option called "keep alive" check that and try if it fixes it.
i was having problems with my connection and that fixed it.

Re: Wireless connections stops working time to time...

Change channel. You seem to have another wireless router transmitting on same channel in vicinity, this causes radio conflicts and results connection without network traffic or frequent disconnections.

Re: Wireless connections stops working time to time...

^^ agreed, might even be a cordless phone. Another thing to try is change to "g" or "n" (if you have it) and not let it autonego.

These are the wireless settings on the router:

I have a laptop which does not have N capability so I can't stick with just N on the router that is why it's mixed.

The channel, do I change that on the router or my USB adapter?

Re: Wireless connections stops working time to time...
