WinXP issue --- slow file browsing

Scenario

Everytime, a user has to open a file from Excel or any other program, it freezes for 4-5 seconds e.g. When i click on the dropdown in LOOK IN, it takes 4-5 seconds to show the dropdown … PLease let me know how I can fix it. Other PCs take less than a second to show up the dropdown list.

WINDOWS XP
P4 2.4GHz
512MB RAM
Domain Enviroment

Check this image for reference… the arrow is pointing to the dropdown inverted triangle… when i hit that… the comp pauses for 4-5 seconds

Re: WinXP issue --- slow file browsing

As far as I know, this is memory related. Whe you have way too many programs open or something resource and/or memory intensive is running (that you may be unaware of). When I see this, I know that its time for a restart.

Re: WinXP issue --- slow file browsing

I restarted the PC
there is only MS Outlook running... CPU usage is at 2% - 4%
just tried to open a document from MS Excel ... same delay...
