Winterpark, Colorado

This past Saturday we had a company paid trip to Winter Park, CO. We drove into Denver and took the ‘Ski Train’ from the Union Station to Winter Park. Usually this train ride is more popular in Winter with most of the tourists & locals who go up the mountains to ski and thus the name. It is not very expensive for the amount of ride, which is 2+ hours one way. You also get a free snack (I think because it could have been provided by the company, who knows).

The train ride is very scenic and far better than driving through the same area on a Saturday because regardless of what kind of weather I-70 generally is packed with people going into the mountains. We are planning to go again this Labor Day weekend, if all goes well and maybe again during December to see how the snow changes the landscape.

Re: Winterpark, Colorado

The train ride had about 13 tunnels with the last one called the ‘Moffett tunnel’ that is suppose to be the longest in the Western America. It took the train almost 15 minutes to go through it.

There is no platform in Winter Park and the train basically stops near a couple of resort style hotels, which are actually outside of the main city. There was public transportation (FREE) that takes you to the city and back and we rode it to get to our buffet lunch organized by the company. The city itself is like any other small western tourist city with strip malls, souvenir shops, restaurants and pubs.

When we got back the resorts there were a couple of things you could do that mainly revolved around teen age children. Stuff like mini golf, outdoor wall climb, leaps & bounds bungee jumping and a chair lift. Most adults were either in the pubs or the outdoorsy types were hiking up the hills or running up the hills and some took the chair lift up and would ride their mountain bikes back.

Re: Winterpark, Colorado

We were running short on time because the train reaches there by 11nish and comes back by 3ish and as it was a bit late coming into Winter Park, by the time we got done with the lunch it was already 1nish. So, we decided to just take the chair lift to the top, stay there for a while and then come back. So, here are some more pictures:

I made a video too that came out better than expected but I still haven’t quite figured out how to use the gupshup video gallery. Maybe soon.
