Re: winter skincare help/acne/ red marks/ dryness/ depression

Hi nadz,

You mentioned that you've tried the tomato juice and also use tretinoin, aloe vera gel and hydroquinone creams. I think you're using too many products on your face and that is causing irritation and may be the reason you're breaking out. You should stick to one or two at the most. You may also have sensitive skin and may want to look for products that are for sensitive skin. I think a good cleanser is Neutrogena's Pink Grapefruit Oil-Free Acne Wash. The Pink Grapefruit Oil-Free Acne Wash Cream Cleanser is also nice. I think Aveeno's moisturisers are really good, especially the Clear Complexion Daily Moisturizer and the Ultra-Calming Daily Moisturizer.

Re: winter skincare help/acne/ red marks/ dryness/ depression

Tretinoin is meant to treat acne. So if you're already using that…..why did you feel the need to add the tomato (or anything else specifically for acne)? Is the tretinoin not helping with the acne? If the answer is "no"…..then why are you still using it?

I don't know what brands are readily available in PK so will hold off in any product recs.

Re: winter skincare help/acne/ red marks/ dryness/ depression

It was.helping.I.think.

Dunno.why.I.did.the tomato thingy

:(

Re: winter skincare help/acne/ red marks/ dryness/ depression

^Do you use sunscreen? Certain acne products make the skin more sensitive to sun exposure, especially if you're using more than one at a time. That may also causing irritation and the breakouts.

Also, don't use more than one acne product at a time as many of them have the same active ingredient and using too much may dry out the skin and cause peeling.

Re: winter skincare help/acne/ red marks/ dryness/ depression

Nadz, this isn't the 1st time you've done this. You should not just slap something on your face b/c someone out there told you it does miracles for the skin. Do your research and think through it BEFORE putting it on your face (including how the new item may react with the current items you're using).

I've said this to you multiple times….do not use too many products at once. Products containing RA and others acids can be harsh on your skin so you need to be careful on how many products & how often you're using it. This is your skin! There is no "I think" when it comes to this. Use 1 product at a time to see if that product is doing what its supposed to do. Either the Tretinoin is helping with the acne or it isn't. Until you get a definite "yes" or "no" answer to this…..don't add anything else to your routine for acne.

Since you're looking for moisturizer recs….you included aloe vera gel….why are you using that? Are you still doing the peels?

Re: winter skincare help/acne/ red marks/ dryness/ depression

^I agree with Paheli.

You should definitely do some research before trying things out. When trying out a new product, I think it's better to test it out on small patch of skin to make sure you're not allergic to it and that it doesn't irritate your skin.

Re: winter skincare help/acne/ red marks/ dryness/ depression

Nadz, stick to the Tretinoin if you think it had started to make a difference..

These products take time but slow and steady is better than rushing and creating more issues and problems for your skin.. You're going to end up with damage if you're not careful and desi skin tends to scar quite easily..

Re: winter skincare help/acne/ red marks/ dryness/ depression

Yes. Ur right!!!

So what to do. I have a Whitehead / red acne apparently they take a week or so to come to surface I only did the tomato thing for 3 days?

I was using aloe vera for a long time any way seemed to hep.

So what should I do? I need somethig to wash face withmild and a moisturiser. Should I replace the moisturiser with a sunscreen. Should I wear sunscreen even indoors.

Re: winter skincare help/acne/ red marks/ dryness/ depression

Because of the winter skin feels dry now.

Also I've been eating bad for ages....diet?

Re: winter skincare help/acne/ red marks/ dryness/ depression

Nadz...please understand that your facial skin is very delicate. It will treat you well if you treat it well.

One treatment plan at a time...tawbah...tretinoin, HQ, tomatoes, aloe vera gel, etc.

How is it you've only got 3 pimples? My face would have exploded into a pepperoni pizza by now!

A super gentle cleanser...Neutrogena makes a good one. Tretinoin. HQ on alternate days if you've got marks - not on the same days as the tretinoin. ONly use these treatments at night. Always wear SPF 50 or higher during the day.

Let your face react to this for a couple of months.

Re: winter skincare help/acne/ red marks/ dryness/ depression

Yes, winter but also because you're drying the hell out of your face. Tretinoin dries. Tomato also dries and its acidic. HQ is also drying. Plus winter.

Up your water intake but a whole lot.

Re: winter skincare help/acne/ red marks/ dryness/ depression

For now STOP using everything except the tretinoin and a moisturizer. Give your skin a break from all other products until this acne totally heals. Do you have access to oils like argan, emu, rose hip in PK? Those are great for moisturizing face.

How exactly did the aloe vera help your skin? You should be able to identify exactly how each product is benefiting your skin.

See the thread below. I answered this exact same question (ie. wearing sunscreen indoors) from you last year. Why on earth do you think a sunscreen can replace a moisturizer? Again….THINK! Does a moisturizer & sunscreen have the same exact purpose? I’m actually scared to ask this but….have you been using sunscreen diligently? You didn’t list it in the 1st post here.

Re: winter skincare help/acne/ red marks/ dryness/ depression

Sunscreen has strong chemicals, so you shouldn't wear it indoors.

Maybe you're doing to much to your face and need yo take a break from products containing acids, hydroquinone, and strong exfoliants....and just use a mild cleanser and moisturizer.

Raw honey...it's the color of ghee....is antibacterial and locks in moisture. Some people have cured acne with it by using it as a cleanser. You use about a teaspoon ...apply and massage gently to your face to for circulation. Leave on for 15 minutes, wash off.

Re: winter skincare help/acne/ red marks/ dryness/ depression

OK.thanks

Yeah.I'm.stupid
Got.carried away

Need to get a cleanser first and then a moisturiser.
Apply tretonion at night.
And HQ alternative night.

Thanks guys xxxx

Any one.know a good non comedgenic Concealer to hide all.this crap now.

I have dermablend Vichy which haven't used yet

Also the pharmacy my husband works at he said he willget me.a gentle cleanser from.the pharmacy ( they don't have neutrogena in a pharmacy here) so should that be OK?

Re: winter skincare help/acne/ red marks/ dryness/ depression

^Dermablend is good (my cousin has vitiligo which is very obvious and it covers that up fine).. Very thick and pigmented..

I often use MAC Full Coverage foundation which is basically the same as the concealer (but without the spf).. I love it..

Stress might be aggravating your skin as well, Nadz.. I know when I'm worried about stuff I can break out horribly..
