Winter/December Weddings

Those of you who live in cold places, have you had or attended a winter wedding? How was it? Good idea or no?

Re: Winter/December Weddings

Good idea in the sense that weding halls are a wee bit cheaper in the winter. I have been to winter (December) weddings, and you run the risk of really bad weather & guests cancelling (depending where you live. On day of my cousin's wedding, it was a winter blizzard and radio was advising folks to stay home if possible. we were out driving at 10 mph trying to get to royal alberts near edison...it was crazy and there were a lot of no shows.

Went to a January London wedding and its so not fun. Had to wear all warm wear over clothes before leaving the house. The static associated with caps, sweaters etc is just so annoying. Your feet freeze is sandals while walking to the car.

Guess the hard part is going to the Hall and coming back. Inside its all warm:)

Re: Winter/December Weddings

it really depends on the venue, because clearly you can't have it outside, so little things like parking have to be very easy for people. And plus people living in these area's are used to putting on the biggest coats over sari's and stuff. I think for the most part winter weddings work out just as perfect as summer/spring weddings, because weddings happen in hotels no matter what season it is.

Re: Winter/December Weddings

Yep I've also been to a January wedding in London.. It was freeeezing outside and raining.. Ready with our umberella, gloves and sjawls.. But you forget about the cold as soon as you're in the hall and having lots of fun.. :)

Re: Winter/December Weddings

Went to a December wedding in Rawalpindi in Pakistan. The mehdhi and walima were held in a tent so it was quite cold even tho they had those coal fire heater things.

Re: Winter/December Weddings

i had my dholki in the middle of a snowy canadian winter. it was a ton of fun, as u dont feel the weather indoors. my girl friends brought a change of shoes so they could slip out of their winter boots and into their fancy stilletos.

Re: Winter/December Weddings

plus all the halls are cheaper!

Re: Winter/December Weddings

if you're wedding is going to be a place where it snows a lot and unexpectedly, then i'd say think well before you decide on a winter wedding. if it's just the cold you're concerned about, i don't think it should be an issue. infact, i would say it's better than a wedding in the burning hot summer (just my opinion because i hate the heat). i like winter weddings because they're cool and calm, we can wear whatever we want without having to worry about feeling hot or sweaty. i've attended some summer weddings and have two coming up this year, i'm already worrying about how they're gonna go. it's uncomfortable for the quests who have to wear clothes with kaam that's pinching us while we're getting a tan and our makeup is melting until we get to the venue..ugh!

Re: Winter/December Weddings

i had my wedding in beg. of january in Toronto. Alhumdulillah weather was fine. Just a little drizzle but not that much, and I don't actually remember if it was that cold or not...

Weather is so unpredictable nowadays, ull get warm, summer-like days in November and snow in April, there's really absolutely nothing u can do about it other than PRAY that nothing serious happens (weather-wise)
