Winter and skin

How do you deal with temperature extremes? The weather is so dry here. My skin is so sensitive that it literally hurts to take a shower. My face is bright pink, on fire, itching badly. Even sensitive skin creams are making me break out. So I am sticking to castor oil but who wants to walk around with an oil spill on their face? What should I do? Last winter I ended up getting an infection on my neck from scratching. And the facial redness is so unaesthetic.

Re: Winter and skin

have you ever tried shea butter? it is the best moisturizer i know..work fine on my dry lips and feet:blush:

Re: Winter and skin

Use a good moisturizer, both a moisturizing soap and a moisturizing lotion. The air gets really dry here in Ontario as well, especially in the winter. I keep a bottle of St. Ives moisturizer with me, at my desk, at home, in my purse .... as soon as I wash my hands at work, they feel really dry and flaky so I need to apply lotion right away. At home I use a moisturizing soap, Oil of Olay with Shea Butter.

Since you seem to have sensitive skin Sarah, I don't know if these moisturizers will work on you. A cheap alternative would be to perhaps try apply a bit of baby oil on your skin.

Re: Winter and skin

aah i hear ya girlies i have the most sensitive skin and winter is no friend.
apply blobs/ loads of moisture on ur skin at night. this way moisture is locked into ur skin at night and will get ya thru the day a lil more snuggly.

Re: Winter and skin

We women are total mindjobs.

I know its icky, but I just seldom use lotion. And yes, I have alligator skin in the winter, and I don't care. I only bother to put it on for some important event, otherwise, I don't give a flying rat's arse.

Re: Winter and skin

Sometimes I enjoy reading PCG's comments, you are hilarious :D

I have been having some break outs lately, so I asked a dermatologist in a drug store and she recommended me to use Vichy’s acne prone skin cleanser with cream. However, I only see cleanser doing its job but when I put on cream I seem to have more acne. So I guess I have to stop using that cream, but now I have dry skin :( it really sux. I am thinking of using baby cream as well, if it works for kids why can't it work for us. I think u should give it a try too.

Re: Winter and skin

after cleansing at night slather on vaseline in a thick layer on face, lips, under eyes and massage. it is THE best. and contrary to popular belief, it DOES NOT block pores. in the morning your skin will be really soft. and use a hydrating moisturizer in the morning. drink lotsa water and lay off coffee since it de-hydrates (look who's talking ) and lay off face powders and stick with moisturizing makeup only.

Re: Winter and skin

shweetz has the right advice! My skin is dry as a desert too and these things work very well. Also, be really careful about the type of soap you use. Ivory could dry up an ocean. Dove is great.

Re: Winter and skin

Olive oil :k:

Re: Winter and skin

hicci u use olive oil on ur body n face?

Re: Winter and skin

Sarah try using that mixture of glycerin, rosewater and lemon. Actually skip the lemon cos it'll probably sting ur chapped skin, just use glycerin and roseater in equal proportions. What everyne else has mentioned sounds good too. Eucerin is a very rich moisturiser too. This other one i use for my hands is from a healthway store called glysomed which contains primarily glycerin and silicone and is so darn good esp when used on moist skin. Always use ur moisteriser on damp skin.

Re: Winter and skin

Use a humidifier when you have the heat going in your house, or better yet, get a humidifier unit installed on your furnace, that way the furnace blows out damp air instead of bone dry air.

Re: Winter and skin

that’s it.
my skin is somewhat dry too and this very inexpensive mixture worked really great on me. Sarah u should try it
