Winter Activities with Kids

Salaam

Please share which activities are you planning to do this winter with your children, activities can include anything that is fun like nature walks, making snowman, playing snowball, doing art work, taking trips to special places and reading particular story book about winter etc.

Re: Winter Activities with Kids

We don't get much snow out here but the constant winter rain sometimes causes the ground to get icy and slippery, so there's not much in terms of outdoor activities for 2-3 months starting now. Summers are awesome for outdoors over here.

So at this time, we usually take our kids to malls that have special activities for kids such as wall climbing, rides, etc. and the kids museum here which has an artroom that features clay moulding, painting, craft making, etc., building and construction, science and nature stuff, etc. So while we're mostly indoors, we do have a great time.

Re: Winter Activities with Kids

^that's great Niksik.

We started winter activities by learning about birds and their needs in winter. we came to know that birds need more food and water and shelter in winter than in summer. So We (me, hubby and kids) made a birdfeeder, put some water in a bowl and put up nest boxes on the wall for birdies.

We also bought a book about British Birds and learnt the names and attributes of different birds and also what food they like.....lots of birds come to eat and drink in our garden and we enjoy watching them.

Our next project'll be about Trees inshaAllah....and I'd add more info and pics to this thread.

Re: Winter Activities with Kids

I take mine to the local library. We paint pictures and read books, make snowman or snow women, go to see the christmas lights in neighborhood, bake cookies (she likes eating the batter), take EXTRA long bubble baths, play pretend camping the living room, watch disney movies and eat popcorn.

It's also fun to do experiments with SNOW - lets say take a snow ball - make it melt and put it outside again. They learn about the temperatures

Re: Winter Activities with Kids

I throw my brothers outside for a couple of hours, they find their own activities...

thats so sweet!!

Re: Winter Activities with Kids

Thanks all for your replies please carry on updating this thread.

We did another winter related activity recently that i’d like to share.

Making Skeleton Leaves

We collected rotten leaves [not completely rotten but without any cuts], put them in a pan of boiling water with washing sode [half tsp]…left in that for 5 mins and then washed with fresh water, these skeleton leaves look so nice on greeting cards.

Re: Winter Activities with Kids

Winter activities for kids... when my kids were from age 2 to 5 - we would do a lot of art work, some TV time, go out to the mall, just go for a small walk around the block, tri-cycle at home.

Other simple things such as - make them a club house by putting an extra large sheet on the dining table, that covers sides completely. Allow them to use REAL kitchen pots and pan, so they let their imagination grow. They loved their club house.

Also, my kids did not like playing much with real toys. They loved playing with the huge card board boxes. I would turn it into a house that they could actually walk in, with a roof and front yard with fencing - all with card board boxes. It was fun and gave me plenty of time to ENJOY life with them.
