Hottie, you should do a search on Non-desi MIL horror-stories, you’d be surprised. I have personally heard some crazy anecdotes on in-laws from goray folk. It’s not just a Desi phenomenon…but we tend to think it is because we tend to be more involved/into our own culture. Maybe because Eastern cultures focus more on joint-family and unity whereas Western culture focus more on individuality…this could be one reason why the issue of in-laws receives more emphasis/attention. As for infidelity…have you checked the statistics on cheating in the West? It’s a greater social stigma for Desi women…I’m not saying they can’t or don’t cheat…but culture/religion…make it tougher for them. I’ve told you this before and Mezghan is telling you the same thing…these things (divorces, infidelity, corruption)…they happen everywhere …it’s not confined to one country or race. I take it you’re Desi…right? So non-desi people…would assume that you’re Pakistani or Indian etc…right? And people, rather automatically, form stereotypes in their mind about a person’s ethnicity. How would you feel if someone makes negative assumptions about you just based on their guess about your ethnicity…merely from your looks? I doubt you’d appreciate it. The thing is…you are doing that to the people of the same ethnic background as you.

They do all the time and there is a reason for that, my Chinese client just told me that she has heard that Pakistanis treat their wives real bad, I just sold a house to this Iranian Realtor that is an amazingly beautiful lady and made 30k in commission’s from us in 20 days span, and she was abused by her husband and shared with me that this is a big problem in their community. So even a beautiful and extremely successful lady is facing domination issues.
