If someone described something like a house…or a smile…as queer…would you take that to mean that the house and smile are gay? No you wouldn’t. It’s because the definition of the word is “strange”…it’s not gay. Homosexuality is believed to be strange, hence queer is used for it as slang. The overall definition of queer is strange, not gay.
