Windows Xp

Computer has been restarting by itself many times so decided to reboot the whole thing. Rebooted few times as whenever its nearly done the screen turns blue with the following message

And when restarted, rebooting starts again and ends back at the blue screen. Nothing new is installed from outside nor do i think any changes happen from inside, before it started restarting by itself.
BIOS memory is disable can’t change any option nor can i go to safe mode, it says “Windows XP setup cannot run under safe mode. Setup will restart now.”

Whats the reason behind all this??? And any quick fixes/solution???

Re: Windows Xp

If this keeps going in a vicious cycle it pretty much means your XP installation has gotten corrupt. Usually its because a bad sector on the hard drive where some important file was.

I'm sure somebody here would give you a detailed info and a solution soon.

Re: Windows Xp

I recently changed my hard drive for the same reason . I had bad sectors :(

Re: Windows Xp

I had to restore my kids computer because of that error. I searched a lot on google and tried many things but nothing worked other than restoring the laptop to factory setting.

couple of things that tell from the log u posted.. log indicates that windows tried to access pagefile memory using kernel process IRQL that was too high.. drivers that use improper addresses USUALLY cause this error..

also, atapi.sys mentioned somewhere, and my take is you've updated CD drive firmware or installed a new drive or have DAEMON Tools or Alcohol 120% installed, doing any of these things results in atapi.sys being locked & preventing windows from backing the file up in an XP system.

OR for whatever reasons, improper shutdown, lost power, data corruption or million other things.. i would recommend start running windows setup from cd, reach to the part where you can run RECOVER CONSOLE, and use the command : bootcfg /rebuild

restart

if that doesnt work, try going to recovery console, use command: REN BOOT.INI BOOT.OLD

it will replace booting sequence file and will popup an error saying No BOOT.INI file found, using C:\WINDOWS default and the computer shall continue booting...

XP Repair install
Please read carefully and make sure you followed the warning links before initiating the Repair Install. You can print a text version for reference. repair.txt

  1. Boot the computer using the XP CD. You may need to change the boot order in the system BIOS so the CD boots before the hard drive. Check your system documentation for steps to access the BIOS and change the boot order.

  2. When you see the "Welcome To Setup" screen, you will see the options below:

This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft
Windows XP to run on your computer:

To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER.

To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.

To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.

  1. Press Enter to start the Windows Setup.

    To Repair Install, press ENTER
To setup Windows XP now and Repair Install , press ENTER. do not choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R", (you Do Not want to load Recovery Console). I repeat, do not choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R".

  2. Accept the License Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows installations.

  3. Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press R to start the repair. If Repair is not one of the options, END setup.

IF THAT doesnt work, i will recommend hardware/touching physically... for your computer to boot, it requires video (monitor) and keyboard... open up the computer and take out EVERYTHING else (sound, network, cd drive connection, keep hard drive) and restart..

IF IT GOES through, put the mouse back, restart...
then put cd drive back, restart..
then sound, network (or wireless).

if they are not physical cards connected to your computer, try disabling them from the bios (if it lets u).. try maintaining the order..

my feeling is it could be corruption occured within windows (it should ALWAYS let u start in safe mode) and swapping physical components tend to reset these things..

Re: Windows Xp

simply reinstalling the os or restoring the computer to original factory setting will work .
I tried to repair OS in my case it did not work had to resort to restoring the system using restore disk which came with the system.

Makes sense.

Hardware or external attachment seems to be problem.
Take out extra stuff and try starting computer. It means unloading extra baggage.
Put back one by one.
Check inside cables attached to motherboard from hardwares, also.

After turning off physically checking each hardware or taking out and putting back helps too.

It seems something to do with hardrive. Did manage to go to recover console but can't type more than 1 word/number, seems restricted. I kinda did all your feedback, remove the interior, exterior, drives etc then put them back in and restarted. When restarted it goes straight to "restarting setup" and when its about to load Windows a pop up appears

Not enough virtual memory or paging file is available to complete the specified quotation

Something of that sort as its there for few seconds, then restarts again and then back to this pop up.

Have to change the hard drive?? is there anything else i can do aside from restoring?

By the way thanks for all the replies.

Re: Windows Xp

google windows xp safe mode setup loop :k:

Re: Windows Xp

that was same problem which i face then i have to change my ram after that every thing is ok

Try googling safe mode setup loop and did try some of the advices, didn’t work. End up bringing the big box to the computer technician, who upon checking and testing said the hard drive is dead and there’s something wrong with the motherboard too, will have to change both. Have decided to buy a new big box instead of replacing these two as the cost will be nearly the same.

Any thing to look or consider on for the new box ???

Thanks all anyway.

Re: Windows Xp

nothing really, pretty standard these days.. $500 or less gets u a half-decent computer lately (if no monitor is needed)

core 2 (dual or quad) or i7 as processor,

2gig ram (more is better), but then usual usages only require this much

hard drives are more capacity the better, but try getting western digital BLUE drives or segate barracuda (Oem versions)

motherboards, stick to brand names like asus (100 to 150dollars)

dvd writers/re-writers/cdrom drives , anything thats standard/cheap. LG for example.

powersupply (part of big box, sometimes NOT part of big box). please ensure its like 400 to 600 watts. i have successfully ran 250watt powersupplies with 3 hard drives, a video card that had its own fan, 2 cd/dvd drives and an extra case fan, and mysteriously it worked until one day i realized thats a fall-apart situation waiting to happen.

case, sizes go in lying desktop, tower: small, mid and full. for average no-nonsense usage i recommend mid size tower. although, if u're only getting 1 hard drive, 1 cdrom drive, and selecting a motherboard that will let u have sound video and network from the motherboard itself (integrated motherboards, lately a GOOD affordable trend), then u can get a small tower.

if u will be doing some adding removing later on (one hard drive, expanded to another hard drive, or second cd drive added or dedicated new video card added or a video capturing card), then i recommend mid size case.

budget permitting, get a case with a "CASE FAN" installed and not "OPTIONAL/SUPPORTED/AVAILABLE".

keyboard, mouse, cd drive, and screens i usually recommend people to keep from their old machines if they're just thinking of starting a BRAND new box.. case, powersupply, motherboard, processor, ram, and hard drive i recommend getting new

This tech might be right or might be wrong. If you have original disks try restoring the system to its original state.
Get a second opinion.

Restoring won't work i think, the system and its internal organs are old and messed up ... so changed it internally , aside from the power supply and the case as it was bought in 09, installed new hard ware, motherboard, card reader, dvd player etc. bought vista too. But decided to reboot back to XP but it didn't load, so installed Vista. So its windows vista now.

After getting done with the rebooting and landing at the desktop, got to know that it couldn't be connected to the internet, be it with router or directly from the modem.

When to the control Panel, then Network/Sharing and turn on the network discovery and file sharing but still no use, its still "not connected" and there's the red cross from the PC to the internet. Check the internet connection, its working fine so its the vista. Google the problem and now i want to bang my head

quick solution? help? fixes?

Thank you all especially confused
