if it is from good japani company it will work good
If it is a cheap imitation from Taiwan or Hong kong it will not work so good :halo:

Windows Firewall is a very basic OS-integrated piece of software. You can customize to block or allow certain ports and programs ONLY if you are a computer savvy or if you know what you are doing. It can’t be the best but if you do not have any firewall and are using high speed internet, it is very highly recommended to turn it on for the minimal protection atleast. Something is always better than nothing. Or as translated by my late English teacher in Karachi - a graduate of Ali GaRh university: NaheeN maamooN saY nakTay maamooN achaY haiN

James Bhand, checkpoint is extensivly used firewall in companies and its made in israel. So I guess you have to update ur info. ;) just my two cents

Windows Firewall only protects you from inbound threats … i.e. it filters only the incoming traffic… If you really need protection use Kerio Personal Firewall

how is ZoneLab firewall? I’ve been using it, though some sites still use “backdoors” and goes undetected

Captain personally I don't like it, it doesn't seem to do much except to make you go nuts over every lil threat. So go with something useful! Some can again it depends on ur settings too.

Captain1... YES - nobody knows if it detects 100%, but the answer to your question is YES
Kerio is comprehensive and it will tell you if any application is trying to connect to an external site and you will get a prompt .... one feature that i like is when it tells you that an application is trying to launch another executable file ---
Kerio Firewall with Kaspersky Anti Virus works great... both have higher detection rates as compared to their peers...
zone alarm is relatively a bit of a resource hog ...

All firewalls do the same thing, block traffic, and then you specity filters to let desired traffic thru. Windows firewall, specially with SP2, blocks a majority of incoming traffic. Check the Control Panel/Firewall settings for details.
If you want to open up a hole here's a few commands:
- netsh firewall add portopening TCP 80 Webserver (this would open a port to let traffic in to your firewall)
- netsh firewall delet portopening TCP 80 (this closes the opening)
Here's the command to enable the firewall:
- netsh firewall set opmode enable
To disable:
- netsh firewall set opmode disable
In the end it all comes down to how you set up your firewall, doesn't matter if you are using the Windows firewall or any other. If you don't know what you are doing then spending $$ is not going to help. If you have WinXP just let the windows firewall protect u and u should be fine.
