Finally, Windows 8 was released for general availability last night.
The world has been waiting for Windows 8. And we are excited to deliver Windows 8 to the world. Windows 8 represents a re imagining of Windows. It provides a personalized experience with a beautiful new user interface that puts you at the center. You get a great experience for entertainment AND creating content all on the same device, either with touch or with a mouse and keyboard. No compromise. Windows 8 comes to life through a range of exciting new apps available through the grand opening of the Windows Store and new hardware from our OEM partners.
It runs faster and is more stable than any previous version of Windows. Doesn’t feel bloated at all. Computers can boot up 33 percent more quickly than they did on Windows 7, Microsoft’s Mike Anguilo said, and users can still use the system with a keyboard and mouse.
I cn’t wait to use it. I am sure some professionals have used it already, share your experience everyone.
Its definitely going to be a learning curve and something the corporate world is going to take time adopting. Feels more like the rollout that they did with Vista. Not saying this OS version is bad as Vista, just that I can sense the reluctance in the market.
I upgraded my 2010 Win7 premium OS to Windows 8 Pro 64 bit. It has been a day since i upgraded it. I have not faced any problems with it. I was allowed to keep all my personal files and installed apps. Everything seems faster as of now especially the startup. But i need to run it for a few more days with my usual apps before i can say it has been a good upgrade for me.
I did not face any issues with the new GUI. It took me a few minutes to get the hang of it. I think reports in the media regarding this issue are exaggerated.
I may also not need to visit google that much since i downloaded client apps for many websites that i usually visit.
And these apps seem to very stylish compared to windows 7. everything is bigger since the app outline and borders disappears every time you open something in it. it seems like a simple website was upgraded with quality styling.

A lot of people are calling it a new Vista.

Been reading some reviews, It is Indeed very fast to start with, but within days it slows down and screws everything up.Let's see how your views will change after some time.
^ You need to buy a upgrade license (if you have Windows 7 / Vista machine) or a full retail license, there is no Update, its full OS upgrade.
I have been running it from the first Alpha builds, its just the metro UI on Windows 7, they cut most of the Vista fat left on Windows 7 and made thinner and faster. But i still cant see any appeal for it in corporate environment, its a great OS for Tablets and Hybrids (thats what microsoft is targeting at) but on a larger screen, it looks wasted, and the metro apps feels more like phone apps (No Windowing and no true multitasking).
