well evryone over here is right.....since the internet came to pakistan or rather i wud say became popular in pakistan....one of its major 'usage' has been porn downloading...but guyz there is no need to get 'alarmed' over these statistics!!!!

You see that as the time is passing, things r getting more and more 'open' in pakistan too...i have recently joined this GS site.... this is my first post....and i have read a number of threads on this site and have come to the conclusion that Pakistanis living abroad have some serious misconceptions about today's pakistan....

The 'rate of change' in society that u people saw from 1970s-1999 was not that great as compared to 1999-2007......i am not saying that this change came in a 'Postive' direction....MOSTLY....MOSTLY.....MOSTLY the change has been towards the 'NEGATIVE ' side....unfortunately.

Pakistan being rated as one of the topmost countries in porn viewership, is in my opinion NOT AT ALL SHOCKING.... u see Pakistan is ranked 6th among all the countries of the world wth respect to population(> 160 million!!!!)...so its a common sense that the more people u have....the more usage u will have..and the more upwards u will move in statistics!!!!!!!

And interestingly out of these 160 million...about 80 million are below 30 yrs!!!!!....meaning having no 'female contact', ..what wud u expect from a population of about 80 million to do....keeping in mind the fact that the mean age of marriage of pakistani males is 27 yrs!!!!

The statistics dont give the impression the Pakistanis are frustrated creatures who have nothing else to do besides sit on the net and view porn....this is the normal responce to a human desire....u people wud probably be knowing this but for those of u who dont: many of the notable universities in pakistan have LAN(local area networks) in the boys hostels...and porn is even freely available on them too!!!!....a couple of yrs back the university administration of a well reputed private engineering university conducted a raid on boys hostels to remove all the x-rated stuff from their computers...the reaction from students was so intense that the news of the incident made to the Newspapers!!!!

These things are bound to happen when u have a society where there is minimal...i wud repeat minimal (contrary to what i have observed on this site that people think that 'Everything' is happening in pakistan 'Openly'....thats NOT TRUE AT ALL) male-female interaction..and evn when the interaction is there...girls are not willing to go beyond the barriers.....only a very,very small, minute percentage does.

Its not only porn...i dont know if u people watch TV channels of Pakistan...but they are also quite 'open' .... tv dramas on drugs, alcohol, sex, etc.. are being aired...the dresses have changed a lot...ALOT of commercials,dramas, talk shows,music channels...have girls wearing jeans and tank tops...this was not the case 10 yrs back!!!!!!

I am not saying that these are in any way good or bad....but we have to consider that it is impossible to stop the young generation from viewing the things...if u wont let them watch tv or use computer in home......... they will go to school where their frndz wud show them things on their laptops...they wud go to internet cafes opened in every corner of pakistan....mobile phones have multimedia system available...almost every teenager has one.....rest u can think of!!!

So u see that u cant really do anything....stop from one way...the other is easily available...so "Will u ppl stop searching for sex!!!"......i dont think so!!!!

I didn’t specifically mention west anywhere.. But it’s true that promiscuity/fornication/adultery (together with other vices) is the norm and is acceptable in Western society whereas it is frowned upon in ours. Now don’t get worked up because there’s no harm in calling a spade a spade, I guess the truth hurts.. Of course there are ‘black sheep’ in every society but they seem to be the majority in theirs.. In their countries rape and sexual molestation for example is the norm, it is so rampant that it hardly makes it to the media, when it does it’s a little caption in the middle somewhere or in a girly magazine such as Take A Break or ‘That’s Life’ which old white ladies read whilst leisurely munching on their fairy cakes, but God forbid even if one such incident happens in Pak or a Muslim country their media and leaders go crazy with excitement because it’s a chance to malign us and reinforce the idea that we’re barbarians, stupid matric-pass NGO ladies in awe of the west and a disdain for their own culture play into the hands of these foreigners thinking they are doing us a big favour when they only care to portray themselves as civilised and us as barbarians, we have our problems but they’re for us to sort out, if westerners are so concerned about the plight of people they should stop burning the mountains worth of surplus grain/food every year and instead donate it to Africa or Asia that are poor due to their colonisations and it will end starvation and save millions of lives, but no what will happen to their economy if they did that?

ANd confuzzeld, as shaaji himself said, things in pakistan have changed. Now it might not be the same as the west but dating is common and mcdonalds are used for that purpose *. Bollywood is to blame for it as I don’t think pakistani dramas are that popular for their romantic shomantism [maybe i am wrong..] which provide a very skewed picture of what romance and love is in real life.

Btw tell me, when in the west did we have blatant gang rape case like Mukhtaran mai where the perpetrators get away? If you were comparing to India, then you might have had a point!

As for the west throwing away food, what obligation does it have to feed muslims??? What about the sodies and qatar [gutter] etc that gamble money away while across the sea, muslims are starving on the east african coast?

ya dating is common but NOT as much as it is being portrayed…u know ppl have a tendency to exaggerate whatever they hear,see … whenever a bomb explodes anywhere in the world(specifically western world) the international media makes a huge issue out of it…bcoz thats not a common thing intheir countries…where as we here say…‘ok fine’ …bcoz we have been seeing this stuff since childhood.

similarly when u see a couple on date in our society…ppl tend to generalize the issue…believe me the ones who go on date in pak have ALL of their SPECIAL SENSES on alert…to avoid getting caught!!!..its a fun to watch too!!!*
