if humans are ever gonna produce fossil fuel, are we gonna have:
-White oil
-Brown oil
-Black oil
-Yellow oil
-Oriental oil
-Hispanic oil
-Arab oil
etc?

5000 is nothing. 5000 years ago, we were already technologically advanced enough to build great pyramids. The oldest cave painting that we have discovered is more than 40,000 years old. If humans could survive 40000 years with almost no valuable medical knowledge and less than 50 years of average life span, then I like to think that with the current knowledge, we can easily hit another100,000, naturally that is. If a disaster of cosmological scale happens, then we could all vanish as early as next year
Habitat may be more important than knowledge for survival of species. The "biological advances" that living things have achieved on earth in maintaining homeostasis are far greater than any machine we can even think of making. Despite that many well established species went extinct.
Then there is the issue of a rapidly growing population that utilizing earth's resources at an unprecedented scale and many of the wastes we are creating may take hundreds of thousands of years to clear up or degrade.
