Am I the only one who thinks that .... nothing is wrong in putting a banner on Holi or at least Diwali day for the Indians.
I know its a pakistani site but ... since so many of Pakistanis living abroad celebrate the functions with Indians, atleast join in, so whats the great deal. thinking

You are probably not the only one, and considering how the Friendship Train between India and Pakistan is running full steam these days, more and more people will likely jump in the band wagon...however, there needs to be a benchmark for what is worthy of being on Pak.org.
I am not intimately familiar with the background and significance of Holi and Dewali, but I am sure of one thing...these are not celebrated on a mass scale in Pakistan. Some Pakistanis (mostly expats) may celebrate it, for whatever reason, but thats their personal choice. I don't see those two occassions, for example, becoming mainstream in Pakistan; just as I don't think Rosh Hashana or Yum Kappur or Easter will be widely celebrated by a sizable population in Pakistan. The chances of a religion-based celebrations to be adopted on a wide-scale are pretty low. The non-muslim population in Pakistan is in low single digits, it seems.
The festivals which have obscure origins or are not directly linked to a specific religion are more likely to be spread by commercial gains (cards, gifts, kites etc). I had heard a lot of people mention that many Pakistanis, especially higher-class families in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad, now celebrate with great fan fare the Valentine's Day and Halloween.

Yeh tumhe kis ne kaha? Basant has always been popular in Pakistan, though it was much less commercial during that time, but it was still widely celebrated.

Thats what you think. Besides, even if it was celebrated in some places, those people were and are commiting a mistake. Many people go give sijda on graves, so does that mean it is also right because people do it? No my brother! Two wrongs don't make a right!

Islamabad, no need to deny it. The only basant I have seen in Lahore was in 1988, I barely remember it, but it was huge. The only thing that wasnt there was the extensive media coverage, the festivities, the celebrities etc. As for your little theory on sajida on graves, that doest make sense here, I was merely pointing out how Basant has always been popular in Pakistan.

Well Punjab makes up a large part of Pakistan so what's your point? Sindhis Pathans and Balochis also have their own cultures does that mean their customs aren't Pakistani either?

I listed a few off the top of my head Karina. There's always been a fair number of Indians here which enhances the place in my view. Like the Pakistani posters, some are better contributors than others.

ok did i say anything wrong? had not basant been celebrated in punjab only? I always heard about basant but i never saw it being celebrated in karachi, hyderabad, sukhar etc.. Fact is a fact is a Fact.... you can get whatever the hell impression and interpretation you want :-)
