I know, I know.. there are some muslims who strongly believe that basant is a hindu festival with murky origins and hence should not be celebrated by muslims at all... but seems like many more muslims in Pakistan don't agree with them and hence the basant celebrations keep on growing every year in Lahore and other cities and villages in Punjab. Interesting.

Zakk.. when is Nau Roz... and will you be kind enough to start a thread in Religion or Culture to give a background and what are the kinds of celebrations involved? Also who celebrates it. When I was in Pakistan, we never heard about Nau Roz. Is it a Persian calander or is it parsi calendar?

I think Gupshup would celebrate Holi and Dewali, just as the mostly sleeping Pakistani nation would in future. Hindu festivals are Hindu festivals, whether this or that. Today so many have given way to Basant (which was not very common a decade ago) and tomorrow Holi and Dewali. Why is everyone worried. Lets be united and enjoy life. All these people who are against such things, including me are nothing but a bunch of mullahs and narrow minded fundametalists!

Two-Nation theory is the basis of creation of Pakistan. It states that Muslims and Hindus are two separate nations from every definition; therefore Muslims cannot live together with Hindus and should have a separate homeland in the Muslim majority areas of India, where they can spend their lives according to the glorious teachings of Islam.

I had an experience from another chat/forum originated by our Indian
friends. The rule was quite simple there .. Paki bashing as much as possible. Nething less than gaallies and greentings to each other families in a very personal way.
Traditionally Pakistanies are less gaally baaz which is nice they dont use the FâK word quite often compare to their Indian brethern.
Basant has been adopted because of its color/noise/and glamour which is not bad for a young nation like Pakistan.
Where does it say that you can not start a tradition adopt it and be proud of it.
Gupistan is very warm / polite and friendly forum because of these qualities of Pakitani culture.., I guess
