In fact, all eight workstations at the STAR Center—the Special Technology Access Resource Center—are specially designed for people with disabilities. Most of the more than 70 users of the center have sensory or physical challenges—they may be blind or quadriplegic or afflicted with muscular or neurological disorders. And the STAR Center, which was established with support from Microsoft and a variety of private and public sector partners, is designed to accommodate their special needs.
Equipment innovations range from large print screens and Braille output to special touch keypads, and even infrared-directed cursors with breath-activated clicking.
