okay so i am new to this whole wifi thingy
i have this old wifi usb thingy
which i never used before. So now i decided to use it as a hotspot for my psp so i can play online games using my pc’s dsl.
but i make an ad-hoc network with the windows networking feature but my psp never detects the connection. it simply says there is no “access point” neither does my blackberry
so i googled a bit and came up with this software called “connectify” which lets users create a hotspot
it made a hotspot but it also had an error that "this device doesn’t support AP (access point). Still neither psp nor blackberry detected the wlan connection.
no my pc is connected using a dsl router which has nothing to do with wireless
i had bought this
long ago cuz i wanted to use my laptop wirelessly but never used it with my laptop cuz i gave my laptop to someone. so it had been sitting there. it connects using usb.
This isn’t a router but its just like a wifi card for laptops except this uses usb.
and ad-hoc , i said that because when we make a new wifi connection in psp it asks for these 2 options
1 - ad-hoc
2- infrastructure
so i assumed making a ad-hoc network it’ll find it when i scan for networks. didn’t work
so i made the SSID thingy with WEP key
still it didn’t find the wifi
i also tried everything using blackberry same result
blackberry gave a different error though, at first it said “no networks found” but later when i changed to ad-hoc mode from infrastructure it said “no supported networks found”
I am assuming, that when you have connected this device with your laptop, you get the option “Set up wireless adhoc network” .. which means the drivers are installed properly. though, these drivers “can” cause a problem if you are at windows 7 64 bit. Make sure u have updated drivers.
Secondly, Make sure that the “internet sharing” is enabled in ad-hoc settings.
Third, keep security key settings as WEP. WPA configuration has problems in windows 7.
Fourth, “Make sure that the ad-hoc network is turned on after you finished the setup”. Since in some cases it is not turning on by-itself.
If the USB wifi stick doesn’t support hotspot capability then you’d really have to dig deep to find anything, IF some infamous hacker has found a way.
I use the Zyxel’s Zyair G-220 for my DS connectivity. It doesn’t work with Windows 7 so have to boot up a WinXP virtual machine to use it. What a drag. I should configure another router for the temp use.
i wish i could be there to go through it step by step with you, it would be such fun
darn, if only i could buy a couple routers and switches and setting up everything, experimenting, messing up and finally getting it to work:smooth:. alas on a student’s salary it isn’t possible bummer
