Why in their sound mind someone will swap their family , if they love their family ?
If they have a dysfunctional family then they should work to make it function properly.

Actually most families on that show aren't dysfunctional, they just need another view point on different aspects of life, from raising children, to taking care of the house. For example, in the one episode, the one family was extreme like a boot-camp where children could not get less than 95% in school, had to eat extremely healthy food, and did not waste their time AT ALL. While the other family was about the artistic abilities of their children, and they let them express themselves through sports, art, dancing, etc and they were allowed to hang out with friends.

So it's a way families experience different ways of life, with a new mom for two weeks.
