sad. and are you by any chance implying that freedom is wrong? and that life is meant to be lived as dictated by someone else?
yes they came home absolutely unharmed. they're not 12 yr olds. they;ve been given the best of upbringing. and now they can choose.
Freedom to do what? To dance around and mix with boys at rock gigs? Its totally acceptable in Islam and South Asian Culture!
Life is always dictated by some one else - it can be the Quran , Bible, Torah, the TV .....no one is free!
When your kids reach to a certain age or level of maturity, you should only give them advice instead of dictating to them, if you do the later they are most likely to rebel against you.
You can advise your kids yes and after a certain age you have to stop dictating.
But in some issues you have to dictate. As they were practising many aspects of Islam of course their ideology would not want rock gigs. I know many more liberal minded muslims who would feel bad aout their kids going to rock gigs.
If that was my daughter I would not have agreed to the rock gig in the first place. They had not been to a gig before so they did not know what they were missing.
When they went they decided yes I like this and want more of it. The parents admitted they were pushing limits at the end.
The problem with advice is that it can be seen too soft and kids take advantage of it.
Kids will always rebel against somethings especially in a society where rebelling is seen as good and promoted.
