if he's done things to me that have caused me to hate him or be repulsed by him, i have to still consent to his desires? :( if a man hurts his wife on a daily basis, he's a stranger to her, her body belongs to him and his to her but in such instances, if her mind hates him for hurting her, it's rape, no other word comes to mind.
Globalgal i'm not scholar but what i understand from this statement is that the hadith states a spouse is their first priority. so to please our spouse comes bf4 other things like cooking, cleaning etc. also if a woman is not thinking her hubby's needs are important n ignores them constantly, men starts looking for other ways very quickly so the logic is to keep him so much happy he doesn't commit gunnah or leave her or as we women like don't bring us a sautan. but there are hadiths which are on wives rights too. they are just hardly discussed or given exposure. some ppl just try to show islam as tyrant n unjust. and as jhoom said this clip came from some isralie tv so may be the point is to show islam is not fair to women.
There are many couples who live almost sexless lives bcoz of one of the two partners(mostly wives) don't feel doing it due to tiredness,job,kids, lack of desire... may be this hadith is a referene for such couples so they fear Allah n fulfil their responsibility towards their partners.

Being in charge does not mean ownership. Wives listen to their husbands when their husbands are not demanding unislamic things. Furthermore, with the power husbands have, they have a great responsibility. They care for the physical and mental well being of their spouse. Forcing women (regardless of whether or not it's physical), is rape, and therefore oppression. And do not forget what the Quran says about oppression. :)
We're to be like clothing for each other, if you are that close to someone, there is a level of respect and affection that supersedes any need to get laid against the others' wishes. What that man describes is something wholly unislamic, and violates the sacred bond between spouses. Once one spouse breaks that covenant, the marriage is invalid between them. And treating your spouse as though you own them is certainly against the islamic standard.

Well, if it makes it any easier, Islam is not a religion, it's a whole way of life with rules and regulations for every single thing in life. According to Sharia, a women has to dress a certain way, can only talk and interact with a certain number of people, etc...
So if every single thing in her life has to be according to Sharia and Islam, then she basically has to listen to everything he says since it concerns Islam.

I used to believe that and wish it was like that, but it's not entirely how it is according to Sharia.
Most Muslims are like the rest of us here and good and kind hearted people, but the religion is so messed up. For this very reason you have radical and Islamic fundamentalists, because they follow the religion exactly how it is.
